Jonathan Bailey has captivated audiences with his charm, wit, and undeniably swoon-worthy voice. Now, he’s putting that voice to very different use.
The Jurassic World: Rebirth star will play the legendary Count Dracula in Audible’s ambitious new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 gothic horror novel, and it’s safe to say listeners are in for a haunting experience.
Known for his velvety delivery and magnetic screen presence, Bailey seems perfectly suited to embody literature’s most infamous vampire. While fans have fallen for his romantic heroes, this time they’ll hear him lean into something much darker, more seductive, and far more dangerous.
Bailey leads an all-star English-language cast that includes Ella Purnell as Mina Murray, Aimee Lou Wood as Lucy Westenra, and Louis Partridge as Jonathan Harker. The ensemble also features David Jonsson as Dr. Seward, Lesley Manville as Mrs. Westenra, Johnny Flynn as Renfield, Francis Lovehall as Arthur, and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Professor Van Helsing.
According to Deadline, the adaptation follows Mina as she pieces together letters, diary entries, and eyewitness accounts after her fiancé disappears in Transylvania. As Dracula’s influence spreads to those closest to her, Mina finds herself at the center of a terrifying battle against an ancient evil that may already have found its way into her mind.
The production is directed by Pet Sematary filmmaker Mary Lambert, making her audiobook directing debut, from a script adapted by Robyn Ahern. Composer Ilan Eshkeri, whose previous Audible work includes 1984, provides the original score.
The new production joins Audible’s growing slate of star-powered literary adaptations. The company recently announced The Murder at the Vicarage, starring Toni Collette as Miss Marple and Kit Harington, as well as new adaptations of Pride & Prejudice featuring Marisa Abela and Harris Dickinson, and George Orwell’s 1984, led by Andrew Garfield and Cynthia Erivo.
In announcing the project, Audible’s Head of International Content, Aurelie de Troyer, emphasized how naturally the classic story lends itself to audio.
“When Dracula whispers in your ear, when you hear his footsteps in the dark but see no reflection, that’s when you understand why we’re the home for this story,” she said. “Our production elevates the psychological thriller at Dracula‘s core.”
Dracula premieres in English, French, Italian, Castilian Spanish, and Latin American Spanish on Oct. 1. A German-language version will follow on Feb. 9, 2027, with a Brazilian Portuguese adaptation also planned for 2027.
