Anne Hathaway would wait decades for Adam Shulman.

In fact, it was the actress’ love for her husband of nearly 14 years that helped inspire her performance in The Odyssey as the character Penelope, who waits 20 years for the return of her husband Odysseus, played by Matt Damon.

“I am one of the luckiest people on the planet Earth,” Hathaway told Justin Sylvester during the Live from E! Stream at the film’s New York City premiere July 14. “I met my soulmate, and we decided to get married and have a family.”

The 43-year-old noted that costar Damon felt similarly about his marriage to Luciana Barroso Damon.

“We both kind of started playing these characters in this deep love relationship,” she added, “knowing that it was possible.”

Indeed, Schulman helps Hathaway—mom to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6—feel like the Princess of Genovia IRL, as she raved that she had the best accessory of the night as she and Shulman are currently expecting their third child
