HBO’s Harry Potter series is reviving the magic.
Harry Potter began in 1997 as a fantasy novel and has evolved into something magical. One of the biggest media empires is beloved worldwide and doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon. HBO, known for adapting fantasy novels into major TV series, is bringing the Wizarding World to life with a whole new series adapting all seven original novels into seven seasons. Season 1 will be adapting Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, as fans await to see what’s in store.
HBO has officially released a new trailer for its upcoming adaptation of Harry Potter ahead of its release on December 25. During the Back to Hogwarts live event, fans were treated to behind-the-scenes commentary as well as a whole new look at the highly anticipated adaptation of the Wizarding World.
The series is said to be a more faithful adaptation by fully expanding each novel with a season. The cast for HBO’s Harry Potter series includes Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, Alastair Stout, Peter Serafinowicz, John Lithgow, Bel Powley, Katherine Parkinson, Janet McTeer, Johnny Flynn, Nick Frost, Warwick Davis, Bertie Carvel, Paapa Essiedu, Anton Lesser, and Lox Pratt.
News of Harry Potter season 2 has already arrived with production under way, and a recasting situation for one of the second book’s biggest antagonists. Originally, DCU star Nicholas Hoult, who had recently concluded production on the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, was cast as Gilderoy Lockhart. However, in a major twist, the Harry Potter audiobook’s original star, Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington, is replacing Hoult as Lockhart.
Harington spoke of his recent recasting and stated, “I’m thrilled. I’ve said a million times, for anyone who cares, that I’m a huge Potter fan. I’ve got to be honest, he’s one of my favorite characters. So, to be offered to play him is a real dream. I think he’s going to be so fun. You said, I got to play him in the audiobooks. That’s not the exact way I’ll play him in the show because it’s an audiobook, but I’ve had a taste of him and felt my way around him. He’s just a wonderful creation.”
HBO’s adaptation was recently facing major backlash after its Back to Hogwarts event unveiled the new Hogwarts Houses redesigns of the crests for Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Fans quickly took to social media and stated that the new designs looked “cheap,” and “It’s like they don’t put enough effort; it’s not an improvement, looks sloppy.” Fans are waiting to see what’s in store as everyone is nervously anticipating the season 1 release.
Harry Potter season 1, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will be released on December 25.
