Netflix‘s new Western series is a runaway hit.
The streaming platform has turned shows from essentially every genre under the sun into smash hits, including sci-fi fantasy (Stranger Things), horror (The Haunting of Hill House), comedy (Orange is the New Black), true crime (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), drama (Adolescence), historical (The Crown), romance (Bridgerton), action (The Night Agent), thriller (Squid Game), documentary (Tiger King), and reality (Love is Blind). Naturally, they also have a roster of successful Western series, including the Josh Duhamel show Ransom Canyon, and a brand new eight-episode series that is blowing up.
The show in question is the Netflix reboot of Little House on the Prairie, the Laura Ingalls Wilder children’s book series that was previously adapted into a legendary nine-season NBC series in 1974. The show, which debuted on July 9, was developed by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine and stars Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls opposite Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls, Meegwun Fairbrother as William Mitchell, Alyssa Wapanatâhk as White Sun, Wren Zhawenim Gotts as Good Eagle, Warren Christie as John Edwards, and Jocko Sims as Dr. George Tann.
Nielsen has now unveiled their streaming chart for the week of July 13 through July 19, tabulating the Top 10 streaming series in the United States across platforms. After debuting at No. 2 behind Peacock’s Love Island USA during the previous week, Little House on the Prairie has risen to No. 1 with 1.175 billion minutes streamed. That number allowed it to reach a cumulative total of 2.1 billion minutes in the United States alone through July 19, which comprises just the first 11 days of its streaming run.
Little House on the Prairie was one of just three series to earn more than 1 billion viewing minutes on streaming during the measured week, and the only new series to do so. See the top five titles from the chart below:

It ultimately remains to be seen how many minutes the show earns during its all-important first 91 days on the platform (which is the period of time measured for placement on Netflix’s all-time viewership charts). While that measuring period extends to October 8, at the time of writing, Netflix’s weekly chart can offer some insight into the show’s performance between July 19 and the time of writing.
After debuting at No. 3 on Netflix’s global Top 10 English-Language Series chart during the first week of its run, Little House on the Prairie climbed to No. 1 the following week. Although it then dropped to No. 4, then No. 6, and then No. 7 before falling off the chart completely during the week of August 8 through August 16, it has accumulated at least 162.4 million viewing hours globally according to Netflix, which amounts to 9.744 billion viewing minutes.
Ultimately, season 1 has so far accumulated roughly 25 million unique views, which is not enough to land it on Netflix’s all-time Top 10 just yet (the current No. 10 is Bridgerton season 3, with a whopping 106 million views). However, by earning billions of viewing minutes so quickly in the U.S. alone, the show has proven itself to be a success, more than justifying the fact that Little House on the Prairie season 2 has already been renewed and is currently in production.
