Despite both Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games confirming that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is currently in development, many forget that we are yet to receive an official announcement. In the past, upcoming video games are usually “announced” alongside a brief teaser trailer or something along those lines, but other than a brief confirmation, nothing of the sort has happened for Hogwarts Legacy 2.
However, with industry insiders believing that an official announcement will take place later this year, others believe that this could point to a potential 2027 release date for the Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Although that seems too soon, it does indeed make sense based on the information we currently have.
Hogwarts Legacy Is Stepping Into A New Era
One piece of information that hints at Hogwarts Legacy 2 releasing as early as 2027 is the news that it will “coincide” in some capacity with the launch of HBO’s Harry Potter television show. Although we do not yet have the specifics, we can safely assume that the show will reference Hogwarts Legacy in some capacity, and perhaps even vice versa. On top of that, with Harry Potter set to air its first season in 2027, it would make sense for the game to launch alongside it, or at least very close to it.
On top of that, it was back in March that Avalanche Software hired a brand-new Community Manager for its Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Although this may not seem like major news at first glance, we have to remember that it is a Community Manager’s job to support the community of a game, and for a game to have a community, it needs to be playable. As such, we can assume that the addition of this brand-new role means that the release is not too far away.
As the new Community Manager, Cody, shared over on r/HarryPotterGame, “I’ve only just started, and while I’m still finding my footing, my goal is straightforward: to make this a space easily worth showing up to. That means celebrating the amazing things you’re creating, making sure your voices and feedback reach the right people, and keeping things welcoming and inclusive for everyone.”
Gamers Are Excited For This New Chapter
As you can imagine, the addition of a brand-new Community Manager and what that could imply was enough to get Hogwarts Legacy fans hyped, and they took to the Reddit comments to share their thoughts about how Hogwarts Legacy 2 could improve on the original.
“As someone who read the books, saw the movies AND played the original PS2 games, I would hate a remake of the original as a show publicity tie-in. I have already played the games. Now, a prequel of the first Wizarding War..” one user suggested. Another fan made an interesting request, sharing, “Please pass the message on that Quidditch needs to be properly implemented, with maybe even a house cup/tournament in the next game! Also, maybe real world consequences of choosing to be evil/good would be awesome!”
However, it was another user that was asking the right questions when they posted, “Welcome Cody! Question. Why can everyone sit down except us?!”
It remains to be seen when Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be officially announced and when we will finally get our hands on the highly anticipated sequel but, for now, it seems as though things are right on track.
