Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) is running for a Senate seat next year, and one of his first ads mocks trans people with several extreme stereotypes.
“We just launched a new ad—and it’s one Jon Ossoff won’t want Georgia to see,” Carter wrote on social media.

In the ad, she’s watching Carter on the television and complaining about how “he’s been MAGA from the beginning” and “loyal to Trump, defended him during impeachment” on the phone with someone who stresses that Carter “helped Trump with the border with deportation.”
She then stands up, and a bunch of trophies come into view, a reference to how conservatives believe that people transition just to win at sports, something that no one has ever done. He’s “banning people like me from competing in women’s sports!” the trans woman complains.
“Buddy Carter even believes there’s only two genders,” she says with a trans Pride flag in the background.
Then a sign supporting incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) comes into view, driving home the point: trans people support Ossoff and hate Carter, so conservatives should vote for Carter to do the opposite of what this trans person wants them to do.
The final image in the ad says that it was paid for by Buddy Carter for Senate and calls him a “MAGA Warrior.”
“what did I do? what did I ever do to this country to earn this seething, mean-spirited mockery? what, besides try to figure out a way i can live my life without it wanting to end it, did i ever do to any of these people?” one person wrote in response to the ad on X.
“This ad is more than enough reason for Democrats to double down on trans rights,” another person, who has #TransRights in their bio, wrote. “It should be pretty obvious why.”
Carter is one of several Republicans in the primary field for the U.S. Senate seat from Georgia, which is up for election in 2026. Several better-known potential candidates – including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) and Gov. Brian Kemp (R) – have said that they wouldn’t be running for the seat.
Carter is tying his campaign to the GOP’s anti-trans rhetoric. His campaign announcement video, for example, stressed his opposition to transgender students being allowed to participate in school sports.
Earlier this year, Carter introduced a bill to rename Greenland to “Red, White and Blueland.”
