Music

Alexis Marrero is a singer, songwriter, and self-taught musician from Cleveland, Ohio. She began her career at the age of 16 and has gone on to release fan favorite singles including “Something That I Missed” and “Rich AF.” Constantly moving, has taken over Sweety High’s Instagram story, modeled for Charlotte’s Closet’s Virtual Fashion Show, began her very own “Quarantine Concert Fridays” in which she performed free concerts for her fans on Instagram live, and started a charity event, “Saving Our Holidays Extravaganza,” in which influencers, singers, and dancers partnered up to raise money for the Salvation Army’s Rescuing Christmas.

She has been interviewed by iHeart: Radio’s “The Outlaws Radio Show,” KTLA’s “Wish USA,” KMET’s “Entertainment Zone,” and has been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers. At the age of 20, she has worked with big names in the industry such as Stefan Litrownik, Stevie Mackey, and Shannon McArthur. She is an advocate for positivity and a role model for people all over the world. With her storytelling, unique vocals, and versatile music, she has something for almost everybody to enjoy and be inspired by. She has many more songs in the works and cannot wait to release them to the world.

“Wake Me Up” is a dark anthem-style cut, where Alexis’ powerful and haunting voice perfectly conveys her strife and anguish throughout the song. A song built on fusing Pop, R&B with a Rock edge, “Wake Me Up” will sound familiar yet refreshing to the listener, while providing insight into her life and experience going through a relationship gone bad. Known for her previous hits that promote positivity, Alexis’ vulnerability is displayed as she relives all she went through until she was able to Wake Up!

What drives you?

A huge factor that drives me is the writing aspect of my music. I have always loved music because it has the power to make you feel something. I want to make people feel the same way that other artists’ music has made me feel. Inspiring people and writing music that is relatable is something that drives me. Music has healing powers, and I hope my music has helped someone through a tough time.

As an artist what are your biggest challenges that’s far?

I’d say there are two challenges for me as an artist that can be challenging at times. The biggest challenge on my career is that I am balancing music and a degree. I am studying Electrical Engineering and Mathematics in college, and it can be very challenging to manage both, but I’m determined! I also have been training to be the best singer I can be. I taught myself everything I knew when I was younger, so now I’m trying to learn things I hadn’t before which is challenging but exciting nonetheless!

Can you recall a moment to change the entire trajectory of your life?

The moment that completely changed my life was when I picked up the ukulele at 15 years old. I immediately started teaching myself how to play and it only made my love for music grow stronger. That moment had confirmed that music was truly what I wanted to do with my life!

Growing up what kind of music influenced you the most?

Growing up, I was really influenced by Elvis Presley and Bon Jovi. Elvis has always been a major influence for me even at a young age. He’s timeless truly. My mom always had Bon Jovi on in the car and I loved it! That’s probably where my love of rock started out. I also loved Maroon 5. I was always jamming out to them growing up!

What inspires your music especially your new single?

I’ve really been inspired by Miley Cyrus’ “Plastic Hearts” era lately! That album has really inspired me recently to reinvent my sound with a classic rock twist! I’d say that between this album and my love of rock music from an early age, it wasn’t hard for me to see a rock aspect coming in for “Wake Me Up.” It had the angst and power to fit itself into a pop rock realm!

If you could play with any musician on stage, who would you choose and why?

I would definitely choose Greta Van Fleet! I think it’d be the coolest moment of my life to perform on stage with these legends and sing a duet with the Josh Kiszka!

Knowing everything that you do now, what advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell myself the importance of vocal training. I would tell myself to find my style because I was not gonna turn out to be the artist I thought I was gonna be. I would also tell myself to never give up, even when the times got tough and I was ready to quit. This journey was gonna be crazy but worth every second of it.

What are your plans for the rest of 2023 and beyond?

For now, I am working on writing and recording new songs to add to my catalog. I also have some upcoming shows booked, including one in Cleveland on April 23rd at the Sly Fox Lounge! I would love to release another song this year as well!
