Single Review: Juliana “Tu Sabor” By Madeleine Kaye and John Stewart

Music

“One of the most important narratives in contemporary pop has been the emergence of Latin music as a potent commercial force in the United States”…..Rolling Stone.

Suddenly and unexpectedly some of the best and most innovative Latin music is being produced by Juliana, a band created by song writers John Stewart and Madeleine Kaye, neither of which are even remotely of Latin decent, nor is drummer Bob Ross. Juliana has just celebrated the release of their new song and video, “Tu Sabor”, which means in English “flavor”….and it does bring tons of flavor to the human spirit.

Throughout the song there is a driving rhythm that is as much of the focus of the song as the actual melody. Listening to “Tu Sabor” is like hearing a burst of color upon a once empty canvas. The tune dances with delight, an integral part of Latin music and the driving motivation behind it. The song promotes the true essence of Latin music which has its roots in Southern Europe and indigenous cultures of the Americas. “Tu Sabor” is a diverse synthesis of the Latin musical traditions with a taste of freedom, experimentation and diversity.

I don’t know what the words to the song mean, but for me it doesn’t matter. It’s the feeling, the vibe, the beat and rhythm that makes the track fun, contagious, and more than worthy of my personal playlist. Vocalist Madeleine Kaye does a dazzling job transitioning the song into an assertive and determined desire to listen, while John Stewart instrumentally plays a dedicated guitar crammed with a fierce Latin flavor.

The visionary of Juliana, John Stewart has a prolific flair for free form and the confines of reality as well as a resourceful and ingenious history in the arts. Stewart began his career as a daredevil teen on the streets of Boston which eventually caused him to become one of the most soughtt after stuntmen in Hollywood. While setting himself on fire, jumping through glass, leaping from tall buildings and committing a multitude of other dangers he eventually took to film direction, but not before becoming the true to life “Fall Guy.” After directing the hit TV series “Power Rangers”, and other films (including one starring my personal heart throb Adam Ant), Stewart re-examined another one of his passions….music. The Juliana project was born to create original Latin songs and is currently working with Former CEO of Calvin Klein, Tom Murry, on a musical venture.

“Tu Sabor” is a vibrant and opulent Latin adventure evoking dance and uplifting inspiration. The video is captivating and laced with sparkle. It will be exciting to see what the phenomenal band Juliana comes up with next as they continue to remain an audacious anomaly in the field of Latin music.

5/5 Stars
