One Piece‘s format-changing return in 2026 has officially become one of the biggest shows in the world, ahead of even more major releases coming next year. One Piece has had a rather eventful year across all the franchise’s major mediums. The anime recently began adapting the latest arc of the manga, which is currently hurtling towards a finale creator Eiichiro Oda has had planned for years. In addition to its Japanese productions, Netflix’s live-action One Piece season 2 was released to critical acclaim and high viewership, cementing the series’ future around the world.
But now, Netflix has released a brand-new TV show in the pirate adventure series’ universe: LEGO One Piece. The two-part special tells the story of the Straw Hat Pirates from the LEGO-style point of view. Acting as a spinoff to the live-action series, the animated miniseries features Usopp recounting his adventures with Luffy and the rest of the crew, giving newcomer Tony Tony Chopper a rundown on everything they’ve been up to. Of course, in typical Usopp fashion, he exaggerates many of the exploits and his involvement in them.
One Piece Is Swinging Up Netflix’s Charts With New Release
LEGO One Piece premiered with both episodes on September 29, 2026. After just two days, the miniseries has become one of the biggest TV shows on streaming around the world. According to data from October 1, 2026, LEGO One Piece is the Number 2 TV show in the world, just shy of the Number 1 spot, currently occupied by Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. In addition, the miniseries is Number 1 in four countries around the world: Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, and Greece. It also sits at Number 6 in the United States.
The series comes as a follow-up to the end of One Piece season 2, albeit more comedic and non-canon to the larger story of the live-action adaptation. Its popularity is aided not only by its LEGO association, but also because it provides a humorous recap of the events of the show ahead of One Piece season 3. It helps that it’s a precursor to 2027, a very big year for the franchise. Not only is the live-action series returning, but so will the original anime, alongside a from-the-beginning remake, The One Piece, set to premiere in February 2027.
Where Did Season 2 Leave The Series?
One Piece season 2 ended on the cusp of the Alabasta Arc, with the Straw Hats continuing their journey to transport Vivi to her home country. They’re on a mission to stop Baroque Works, a syndicate whose leader, Crocodile, has taken control of the Kingdom of Alabasta. One Piece season 3 is expected to adapt the rest of the arc after the group’s recruitment of Chopper, focusing on Vivi and her attempt at bringing long-overdue peace to her home.
As for LEGO One Piece, the rather unique, comedic take on the franchise has clearly resonated with plenty of people around the world. It’s something that may continue to stay in the public eye for quite some time, since the only other media releasing regularly at the moment is Oda’s manga. It makes the show a strong precursor to One Piece‘s great expansion next year, which will no doubt aid the franchise for quite some time to come.
