Madonna and Charli xcx are officially turning a rumored pop feud into a full-blown dance-floor event.
The two artists have teamed up for “Danceteria Afterhours,” a new remix of Madonna’s Confessions II track “Danceteria.” The song arrives Thursday, Sept. 24, through Warner Records, marking the first time the pop powerhouses have released music together.

Madonna previewed the collaboration on Instagram with a video of the pair dancing together in a bright white studio. In the snippet, they declare, “Everyone here is a work of art,” before Madonna invites listeners to take it to New York’s East Side.
The title reaches back into Madonna’s own history. Danceteria was the legendary New York nightclub where she spent time early in her career, before becoming one of the world’s biggest pop stars. The venue became a gathering place for artists, musicians, and New York’s downtown queer scene in the 1980s, making it a fitting meeting point for two performers who have built their own generations of dance-floor devotees.
From Feud Rumors to a Pop Collaboration
The collaboration follows months of speculation about Madonna and Charli’s relationship. Earlier this year, Charli declared that “the dance floor is dead” on her song “Rock Music.” Soon after, Madonna posted a pointed response on Instagram, writing that if a dance floor feels dead, the wrong music may be playing.
Fans quickly interpreted the posts as the beginning of a pop feud, but any supposed tension now appears to have been little more than internet projection, or perhaps some very effective foreshadowing.
Rumors of a collaboration intensified in June when Madonna and Charli were seated together at Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 2027 menswear show in Paris. Charli has also been open about her admiration for the Queen of Pop, previously praising Madonna’s influential 1991 documentary Truth or Dare and calling her “the one.”
According to a press release, “Danceteria Afterhours” celebrates the bold beginnings and influences that shaped both artists.
Safe to say, I think the dance floor is NOT dead.
Madonna’s ‘Confessions II’ Era Keeps Growing
“Danceteria Afterhours” continues Madonna’s massive Confessions II era. Released in July, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and gave the singer another Dance Airplay chart-topper with “Love Sensation.”
Madonna later released two new versions of that song with Kylie Minogue, delivering another long-awaited team-up between pop royalty. Now Charli is entering the Confessions II universe, as Madonna prepares to lead the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards with 13 nominations.
The original version of “Danceteria” was co-produced by Madonna, Andrew Watt, Cirkut, and Stuart Price. Three limited-edition CDs of the new remix are also available to preorder.
