Cologne Women Love #10. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

This is a light, fresh, crisp, clean, aquatic cologne with citrusy notes in the beginning. Some people detect a floral note, which is actually rosewood.
Top Notes: Sicilian mandarin, frozen grapefruit peel, Bergamot, Juniper
Heart Notes: Rosemary, Szechuan pepper, Rosewood
Base notes: Musk wood, Incense, Oakmoss
Season: Spring/summer
Day or night: Day
Formal or casual: Casual
Projection (how far away you can smell it): Moderate – you’ll have a scent cloud for about 4 hours but won’t smell it from too far away
Performance (how long you can smell it for): Moderate, 3-6 hours
Why do women love Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue?
Light Blue smells young, fresh, and energetic and it’s a great mood booster. Sweet but not too sweet; it’s not going to offend anyone.
Cologne Women Love #9. BVLGARI Man in Black

Man in Black is all about spices, rum and leather. If you like Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb, you’ll love this – it’s like a drier, smoother Spicebomb with a more mature vibe.
Top Notes: Rum, Cardamom, Cinnamon
Heart Notes: Tuberose, Iris, Leather
Base notes: Benzoin, Tonka bean, Guaiac wood, Black amber
Season: Fall/winter
Day or night: Night
Formal or casual: Both
Projection: Moderate. You can throw a thick sweater on and still smell it.
Performance: Long-lasting, 10+ hours
Why do women love BVLGARI Man in Black?
Bvlgari Man in Black is an alpha male fragrance that’s also warm and comforting and sweet in a dark, masculine way. It’s sexy, mature, confident and classy, like James Bond.
Cologne Women Love #8. Tom Ford Noir

This is a sophisticated sweet, spicy oriental cologne with flowers and woods. Some men find it too powdery and androgynous; others think it’s very masculine.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Verbena, Caraway, Pink Pepper, Violet
Projection: Black pepper, Nutmeg, Tuscan iris, Geranium, Bulgarian rose, Clary sage
Base notes: Opoponax, Amber, Indonesian patchouli leaf, Vetiver, Civet, Vanilla
Season: Fall/winter
Day or night: Night
Formal or casual: Formal – it’s Tom Ford, so it’s the fragrance equivalent of a great suit.
Projection: Moderate. Don’t overdo it – too much of this and you’ll overwhelm people.
Performance: Long-lasting, one spray can last all day.
Why do women love Tom Ford Noir?
The mix of dark notes and rose makes Tom Ford Noir mysterious, sexy, gothic, and romantic.
Cologne Women Love #7. Dolce & Gabbana The One

This sweet, spicy, aromatic oriental is a VERY popular date night and clubbing fragrance. It’s masculine and classic.
Top Notes: Grapefruit, Coriander, Basil
Heart Notes: Cardamon, Ginger, Orange Blossom
Base notes: Cedar Wood, Ambergris, Tobacco

Performance: Low to moderate, about 4 hours
Why do women love Dolce & Gabbana The One?
The One is soft, warm, sexy, comforting, gentlemanly, and youthful without being childish. It’s a crowd-pleaser – but they may well have smelled it before.

Cologne Women Love #6. Gucci Guilty Eau Pour Homme

When you think Guilty, think of two words: sweet and masculine. This woody aromatic cologne was created as a companion to the women’s perfume Gucci Guilty, but it’s an alpha male scent.
Top Notes: Lavender, Lemon
Heart Notes: Orange flower
Base notes: Cedarwood, Patchouli
Season: Spring/summer/fall
Day or night: Both
Formal or casual: Both
Projection: Low to moderate
Performance: Moderate, 7-9 hours
Why do women love Gucci Guilty Eau Pour Homme?
Gucci Guilty sends the message “I’m a man, not a boy.” It’s dark, mysterious, and romantic rather than sexy. A 2015 Dutch study found that calming scents like lavender increase trust. So if you want her to trust you, spray-on Guilty.
If you want it darker: Guilty Black Pour Homme takes the same lavender and orange flower and drops them into a smokier base. It is the night-out version of the bottle above — better after dark, better in cold weather, and it projects harder.

$100.00
Cologne Women Love #5. Tom Ford Grey Vetiver

Just like it says on the label, you’ve got vetiver – an earthy aromatic scent – with salty notes, woods and citrus. It smells bright, clean, and sunny but also sophisticated, masculine, mature, and distinguished.
Top Notes: Vetiver, Orange flower, Grapefruit
Middle Notes: Aromatic sage, Orris, Nutmeg
Base Notes: Pimento, Amber woods, Oakmoss

Why do women love Tom Ford Grey Vetiver?
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver projects the image of a classic sophisticated gentleman. This isn’t a sexy come-hither scent, it’s elegant and classy.

This versatile aromatic woody scent is rugged and masculine. It smells of mountain air and rich woods with black vanilla.

Cologne Women Love #2. Bleu de Chanel

- Top Notes: Grapefruit, Lemon, Mint, Pink Pepper, Aldehydes, Bergamot, Coriander
- Heart Notes: Ginger, Jasmine, Nutmeg, Melon
- Base Notes: Incense, Amber, Cedar, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Labdanum, Amberwood
Fresh, clean-smelling citrus and mint set the stage here and what woman doesn’t love a clean and put-together man? This is a highly popular men’s fragrance for a reason – it’s a choice that almost never fails to create a romantic atmosphere.
Buy this fragrance if you want the feeling of putting on a crisp new shirt, suit and tie. Do you feel the confidence, the manliness? That’s what this fragrance is designed to make your date associate you with.
Why do women love Bleu de Chanel?
Because it never tries too hard. Bleu de Chanel sits in that narrow band where a fragrance reads expensive without reading loud — the grapefruit and mint up top say clean, the cedar and sandalwood underneath say grown man. It works at the office, on a first date, and at a wedding, which is why it has stayed near the top of the best-selling men’s fragrance lists for over a decade. If you are only going to own one bottle, own this one.
Cologne Women Love #1. Amouage Reflection Man

Top of the list is this great niche cologne. It’s a sweet, smooth woody floral musk built from old-fashioned fragrance combinations often found in toiletries, fine-milled soaps, and barbershops. It’s been likened to Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Le Male.
Top Notes: Red Pepper Berries, Rosemary, Bitter Orange Leaves
Heart Notes: Orris, Jasmine, Neroli
Base notes: Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Vetiver
Season: Spring/summer/fall
Day or night: Both
Formal or casual: Formal
Projection: Powerful – it projects well for up to 4 hours.
Performance: This is what they call a ‘beast mode’ cologne – it lasts all day.
Why do women love Amouage Reflection Man?
Amouage Reflection Man is elegant, classy, romantic, old-fashioned, sweet, soft and approachable. Plus the ingredients are really high quality, so it smells natural rather than chemical.

Bonus #1. Kilian Apple Brandy On The Rocks
- Top notes: Apple, Oak, Vanilla
- Heart notes: Labdanum
- Base notes: Cedar
The name Apple Brandy conjures up memories of dates on cold and crisp fall days. If you’re looking for a fragrance that reminds a woman of time spent together with mulled wine and apple-picking, this fragrance won’t disappoint.
Presentation is an important part of a fragrance as well and Kilian’s premium lockbox design separates it from the crowd.
Why do women love Kilian Apple Brandy On The Rocks?
Because it smells like a memory rather than a cologne. The apple and vanilla read as warm and familiar, the oak keeps it from turning into candy, and the whole thing lands somewhere between a cider mill and a good bar. It is expensive and it is worth it — but buy a sample first, because gourmands are the most personal category in fragrance.
Check the current price on Apple Brandy On The Rocks at Maxaroma.
Bonus #2. Versace Eros

This sweet fresh vanilla mint fragrance with apple and lemon is well-known as a clubbing scent, but it’s actually very versatile.
Top Notes: Mint, Green Apple, Lemon
Heart Notes: Tonka bean, Geranium, Ambroxan
Base notes: Madagascar vanilla, Vetiver, Oakmoss, Virginian cedar, Altas cedar
Season: All
Day or night: Both
Formal or casual: Both
Projection: Strong but not overwhelming. If someone is sitting next to you at a table they will smell it.
Performance: Another beast that lasts all day.
Why do women love Versace Eros?
Versace Eros is sexy, youthful, and fun. A 1989 study by Thompson & Lorig showed that women find peppermint and vanilla scents arousing.
If you want it warmer: Eros Flame is the fall and winter version of this bottle. Same DNA, but the mint gets swapped for black pepper, rosemary and vanilla, so it lands heavier and sweeter. Wear the original from May to September and the Flame from October on.
Bonus #3. Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo

This one was designed to embody the essence of Italian style. It’s a light, fresh, citrusy, woody aromatic, similar to Yves Saint Laurent Homme Libre.
Top Notes: Calabrian bergamot, citruses
Heart Notes: Violet leaves, Violet
Base notes: Vetiver, Cedar, Amber wood
Season: Spring/summer
Day or night: Both, especially day
Formal or casual: Both
Projection: Moderate, turns into a skin scent in 3 hours
Performance: Moderate, about 7 hours
Why do women love Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo?
Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo is elegant, summery, and simultaneously classy and ultra-casual – it goes equally well with a business suit or beachwear. If you want a subtle, inoffensive, light, clean, masculine floral, this is your pick.
Bonus #4. Acqua di Parma Colonia Pura

This is a unisex fragrance launched in 2017 as a more modern interpretation of Colonia. The classic Acqua di Parma has top notes of orange and bergamot and white floral middle notes. The base notes of patchouli, musk, and cedarwood make it more masculine than feminine.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Orange, Petitgrain
Heart Notes: Narcissus, Jasmine, Coriander
Base notes: Patchouli, White musk, Cedarwood
Season: Spring/summer
Day or night: Day
Formal or casual: Both
Sillage: Low to moderate
Performance: Moderate, about 4 hours
Why do women love Acqua di Parma Colonia Pura?
Acqua di Parma Colonia Pura is a sunny, uplifting, and calming scent that evokes the image of an old-fashioned gentleman with a more modern twist.
Bonus #5. L’Eau d’Issey

This one’s a classic. Created in 1994, it’s a woody aquatic citrus fragrance with spicy notes.
Top Notes: Yuzu, Cypress, Coriander, Mandarin, Clary sage, Fresh verbena
Heart Notes: Blue water lily, Nutmeg, Saffron, Bourbon geranium, Ceylonese cinnamon
Base notes: Tobacco, Amber, Musk, Indian sandalwood, Haitian vetiver, Cypriol
Season: Spring/summer
Day or night: Day
Formal or casual: Both
Projection: Moderate to heavy for the first 3 hours, then it sits closer to your skin.
Performance: Moderate to long-lasting, 9+ hours.
Why do women love L’Eau d’Issey?
L’Eau d’Issey is an unusual, unmistakable scent – sophisticated, timeless, elegant, clean, and as minimalist as the bottle.

Bonus #6. Tom Ford Black Orchid

The great thing about TF colognes is their variety, strength and uniqueness. While Tom Ford Black Orchid is technically a designer cologne and not part of his more experimental Private Blend Collection of niche scents, it’s still worth mentioning as one of the most distinctive scents on the market.
Women love this scent because it shows a man isn’t afraid to dip his toe into typically ‘feminine’ accords while still maintaining his masculinity.
As the name would suggest, this scent is a floral scent that’s actually considered ‘unisex’ (in that it’s able to be worn by both men and women).
A man wearing Black Orchid stands out from the crowd as a man in touch with his feminine side. He doesn’t come across as lady-like, but he definitely represents a more modern, sensitive man who isn’t afraid to try new things.
Top Notes: Truffle, gardenia, black currant, ylang-ylang, jasmine, bergamot, orange, lemon
Heart Notes: Orchid, spices, fruity notes, lotus, jasmine
Base notes: Mexican chocolate, patchouli, vanille, incense, amber, sandalwood, vetiver, musk
Season: Winter
Day or night: Night
Formal or casual: Formal
Projection: Moderate to heavy for the first 5 hours, then it sits closer to your skin.
Performance: Long lasting, 9+ hours.
More Intoxicating Colognes Women Love On Men
The ten above are the safe bets. They work on almost any woman, in almost any room, and none of them will get you into trouble.
This next group is a different animal. These are the heavy hitters — the intoxicating men’s colognes that stop a conversation because somebody had to ask what you are wearing. They project harder, they last longer, and most of them cost more.
One warning before you spend the money. Potency cuts both ways. Two sprays is plenty with anything on this list. Go to five and you stop being the guy who smells great and start being the guy people step away from in the elevator.
Creed Aventus

- Top Notes: Apple, Blackcurrant, Pineapple, Bergamot
- Heart Notes: Juniper Berries, Birch, Patchouli, Jasmine
- Base Notes: Vanilla, Musk, Oakmoss, Ambergris
Creed Aventus is perfect for warm spring and summer days. It also happens to be one of the most popular high-end fragrances for the last decade.
Aventus is essentially the ideal modern gentleman in a bottle: Passionate and energetic with a thoughtful and manly side.
Some have described Creed as a ‘love it or hate it’ fragrance. Personally, I prefer a fragrance that a small number of women are truly intoxicated and intrigued by rather than a fragrance that gets a faint smile from everybody.
Parfums de Marly Layton

- Top notes: Apple, Lavender, Mandarin Orange, Bergamot
- Heart notes: Geranium, Violet, Jasmine
- Base Notes: Vanilla, Cardamom, Sandalwood, Pink Pepper, Patchouli, Guiaic Wood
Layton transports your date to an orchard next to a rustic bakery in the same way that Creed’s Silver Mountain Water transports your date to the Alps.
This is a fragrance with an intense aroma carried by the notes of vanilla and precious woods. The smell of caramelized coffee won’t be found in the notes on paper but can be detected by the nose.
Dior Sauvage EDP

- Top Notes: Bergamot
- Heart Notes: Sichuan Pepper, Lavender, Star Anise, Nutmeg
- Base Notes: Ambroxan, Vanilla
You probably know Dior’s Sauvage from its Johnny Depp-fronted marketing campaign. Why is this fragrance so seductive though?
Sauvage uses high-end, exotic ingredients to create a cleansing but spicy cloud around you. It reminds a woman of a clean-cut man with an alluring dangerous side.
Think James Bond…
I recommend you purchase the Eau De Parfum (EDP) version of Sauvage. This is a small step up in price from the standard Eau De Toilette (EDT) but adds noticeable extra strength and longevity. Learn more about the difference between EDT, EDP and EDC fragrances here.
Armaf Club de Nuit Intense
- Top notes: Lemon, Pineapple, Black Currant, Bergamot, Apple
- Heart notes: Birch, Jasmine, Rose
- Base Notes: Musk, Ambergris, Patchouli, Vanilla
If you have heard of Creed Aventus but can’t afford it then this is the fragrance for you. This masculine cocktail of a fragrance has the same seductive effect on women for a fraction of the price.

Armaf built its whole reputation on this trick, and Club de Nuit Intense is the bottle that did it. You get the same complex cocktail women respond to in Aventus — masculinity balanced with energy and a romantic side — for roughly a tenth of the money.
Paco Rabanne 1 Million

- Top Notes: Grapefruit, Mint, Blood Mandarin
- Heart Notes: Rose, Cinnamon, Spicy Notes
- Base Notes: Leather, Woody Notes, Amber, Indian Patchouli
A woody and spicy modern classic very popular with men looking to draw in the ladies. 1 Million has an intense sweet note that reminds me of bubblegum. This gives the fragrance a youthful and relaxed character that makes it the perfect choice for a young man.
The combination of sweetness and spiciness makes this best for fall and winter.
Paco Rabanne 1 Million Privé

- Top notes: Blood Mandarin, Cinnamon
- Heart notes: Tobacco, Myrrh
- Base notes: Tonka Bean, Patchouli
What could beat Paco Rabanne 1 Million? How about 1 Million Privé? Cinnamon joins blood mandarin as a top note. Myrrh is introduced as a heart note for an oriental feeling.
The darker, dryer feeling of these notes makes 1 Million Privé a more sophisticated version of the standard 1 Million. That makes this a fragrance you can wear to the office and then re-apply for whatever romantic plans you have afterward…
Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Extreme

- Top notes: Bergamot, Cinnamon, Pepper
- Heart notes: Lavender, Cumin, Elemi
- Base notes: Iris, Tobacco, Cistus Labdanum, Vanilla
The original Spicebomb is a go-to cologne for many men. This is exactly why you’ll stand out from the crowd by opting for its big brother: Spicebomb Extreme.
This fragrance appeals to a wide variety of women because it covers a lot of bases. Spicebomb Extreme is rich, sweet and spicy yet balanced with the herbal smell of fresh lavender.
Tom Ford Oud Wood
- Top notes: Exotic Rose Wood, Cardamom, Sichuan Pepper
- Heart notes: Oud Wood, Sandalwood, Vetiver
- Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Amber
If you have heard of Tom Ford you know he is an elegant man who is full of confidence and completely comfortable in his own skin. This is one of Tom Ford’s original fragrances and there is a lot of his personality in this bottle.
This a warm, luxurious and bold fragrance. In other words, just like its creator. Do you want to be Tom Ford? Of course you do.
Tom Ford Private Blend Oud Wood Eau De Parfum Spray – 50ml/1.7oz,Black
$209.82
Creed Silver Mountain Water

- Top notes: Bergamot, Mandarin Orange
- Heart notes: Green Tea, Blackcurrant
- Base Notes: Musk, Petitgrain, Sandalwood, Galbanum
Not everyone can go on a romantic date to the Alps. That’s why Creed has brought the feeling of refreshing mountain air and trickling streams to anyone who wears this fragrance.
A woman who smells this cologne will be revitalized and relaxed. The perfect mood for getting to know someone better.
Parfums de Marly Carlisle

- Top Notes: Green Apple, Nutmeg
- Heart Notes: Tonka Bean, Rosa
- Base Notes: Vanilla, Patchouli
Carlisle is a spicy-sweet explosion that communicates power and masculinity. This is a fragrance with strong projection and great longevity to match at up to nine hours.
Take Layton from Parfums De Marly and add a feeling of being in a dark wood – this is a rich fragrance best kept for fall and winter. The bottle is black for a reason!
Parfums de Marly Greenley

- Top Notes: Sicilian Bergamot, Mandarin, Green Apple, Cashmere Wood
- Heart Notes: Cedarwood, Petitgrain, Violet, Pomarose
- Base Notes: Oakmoss, Musk, Amberwood Accord
Marly says this is ‘a source of pure energy’ and what woman doesn’t want to be with a man who is charismatic and full of life?
If you want a vibrant yet sophisticated fragrance then look no further than this oriental fougère (a combination of exotic spices and ferns to you and me).
Kilian Vodka On The Rocks

- Top Notes: Coriander, Cardamom
- Heart Notes: Rose, Rhubarb, Lily Of The Valley
- Base Notes: Oakmoss, Ambroxan, Sandalwood
Why is this fresh and woodsy warm weather fragrance so seductive? Think of Vodka On The Rocks as the aroma rising up from the ice and spirits in a woman’s drink.
If Guerlain’s L’Homme Ideal was designed to make women eat you up, Kilian’s Vodka On The Rocks is meant to make women want to drink you in!
Fresh Colognes Women Love For Everyday Wear
Not every day calls for a fragrance that fills a room. Most days you are at the office, running errands, or picking your kid up from practice, and what you want there is a scent that reads clean instead of loud.
Here’s the deal: these are the ones nobody in a meeting will complain about, and your wife will still notice them when you walk through the door. Lighter, fresher, easier to wear, and every one of them earns compliments without demanding them.
Terre d’Hermès

- Top Notes: Orange, Grapefruit
- Heart Notes: Pepper, Pelargonium
- Base Notes: Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli, Benzoin
Here’s another fragrance that has two sides to its personality.
This is a fragrance that wouldn’t raise eyebrows from anyone passing you by in the office thanks to the orange and cedar notes. When a woman is standing next to you at a bar though she will be drawn in deeper and deeper by the pepper and patchouli. Now that is what I call intoxicating.
Guerlain L’Homme Ideal EDP

- Top Notes: Citruses, Orange Blossom, Rosemary, Bitter Orange
- Heart Notes: Almond, Tonka Bean
- Base Notes: Leather, Vetiver, Cedar
You are probably used to seeing almonds in chocolate and cakes so why is it a heart note in this fragrance? It’s because this is a ‘gourmand’-like fragrance.
That means L’Homme Ideal has been designed to use the smell of food to create an intoxicating aura around you when a woman smells L’Homme Ideal.
You could even say Guerlain has created this cologne to make you smell good enough to eat. Give this fragrance a try because its powers aren’t limited to just foodies.
As with Dior’s Sauvage, my advice here is to pick up the EDP (Eau De Parfum) version of this fragrance for extra power and longevity.
Armani Acqua di Gio Profondo

- Top Notes: Sea Notes, Aquozone, Bergamot, Green Mandarin
- Middle Notes: Rosemary, Cypress, Lavender, Mastic
- Base Notes: Mineral Notes, Patchouli, Musk, Amber
If you want a fragrance that’s truly intoxicating you need Profondo. The depth and intensity of its notes have an indisputably masculine character that is designed to draw women towards you.
Longevity is also a specialty of Profondo, lasting six hours or more. This is what will guarantee you stand out from other men wearing an ordinary summertime fragrance that will be undetectable later in the day.
Calvin Klein Euphoria Men

- Top Notes: Ginger, Pepper
- Heart Notes: Black Basil, Sage, Cedar

Euphoria Men helps you get a woman’s attention by including overlooked (but intoxicating) ingredients in their fragrances. This is a cologne that specializes in subtlety and lets its herbal and woody ingredients do the talking for it.
You are guaranteed to capture a woman’s interest with notes like black basil because the woman next to you at a bar will never have smelled them before. Many fragrances are seasonal but Euphoria can be worn all year round, ensuring you always stand out from the crowd.
Calvin Klein Obsession For Men

Fragrances often come and go like fashion trends so I take notice when a cologne like Obsession has been around since the 80s and is still thriving. When I see the same timeless fragrance combining this many notes and offering that experience at reasonable prices…how could I leave it off this list?

Colognes Women Love: Your Questions Answered
What cologne do women find most attractive?
There isn’t one, and any list that tells you otherwise is selling something. What the research and two decades of reader mail both point to is warmth: vanilla, amber, tonka bean and musk get commented on more than anything else. If you want the single safest bet on this page, it’s Bleu de Chanel. If you want the one that gets stopped in hallways, it’s Creed Aventus.
What fragrance notes are women most attracted to?
Vanilla and musk lead, followed by warm spices like cinnamon and cardamom, then clean woods like cedar and sandalwood. Thompson and Lorig found back in 1989 that peppermint and vanilla register as arousing, and the gourmand boom since then has more or less proven them right. I go deeper on this in my guide to the fragrance notes women find attractive.
How many sprays of cologne should a man wear?
Two to four, depending on the bottle. A light citrus like Light Blue can take four. A beast like Aventus, Layton or Eros Parfum needs two and no more. Here’s the test: if you can still smell yourself twenty minutes after spraying, you have used too much. Your nose goes blind to your own scent fast, which is exactly how men end up walking around in a cloud.
Where should you apply cologne so women actually notice it?
Pulse points, because heat pushes the scent out through the day: the base of the neck, the chest, and the inside of the wrists. Skip the neck-only habit most guys default to, and never rub your wrists together — that crushes the top notes and shortens the life of the whole thing. One spray on the chest under your shirt is the move if you want her to find it when she’s close, not from across the room. I walk through the full routine in my guide to how to apply cologne the right way.
Should you buy EDT or EDP?
EDP, almost always. Eau de parfum carries a higher concentration of fragrance oil, so it projects further and lasts hours longer for a small step up in price. The exception is summer, where an EDT’s lighter touch is the point. If you’re new to this, start with my introduction to fragrance.
