Hilary Duff is coming clean about the realities of family life.

As it turns out, the Disney Channel alum’s Madison Square Garden debut didn’t start out so perfect, with Hilary—who is mom to daughters Banks, 7, Mae, 5, and Townes, 2, with husband Matthew Koma, as well as son Luca, 14, with ex Mike Comrie—spending the morning in the emergency room.

“My kids are here tonight,” she told the crowd during the Aug. 5 concert. “I can’t believe I get to show them this.”

Especially since the one of her children needed some medical attention just hours earlier.

“We were in the ER this morning getting some stitches for my 5-year-old,” Hilary revealed of Mae. “She’s fine, it’s all good, but it’s very ‘our family’ coded that Id’ be playing my first night at MSG and also be in the emergency room getting my kid stitched up.”

Though the 38-year-old didn’t reveal what events led Mae to her injury, she did share a special message to her second-oldest daughter: “Mae Mae, you’re very brave.”
