Vocalist of the Year – R&B Soul Nominee Set to Take the Stage at Music’s Biggest Independent Night on September 20
On September 20, the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee will host the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards – widely recognized as the largest independent music awards show in the world – and Bria Cheri will be in the room as a nominee for Vocalist of the Year – R&B Soul. For an artist who built her career one song, one stage, and one city block at a time out of Jamaica, Queens, the road to that historic stage has been years in the making.
Bria Cheri’s love for music began at age three, when her mother introduced her to piano. What started as a childhood discovery grew into a decade-long pursuit of the craft, with Bria writing her own songs, sharpening her voice, and building a catalog that includes the albums and EPs Before the Music, Silent Siren Vol. 1, and Phoenix. Before the Music was produced by Donnie Klang, the singer, songwriter, and producer who won Sean “Diddy” Combs’ “Making the Band 4,” a mentorship that helped shape Bria’s earliest introduction to a national audience.

That groundwork has continued to pay off. Bria’s most recent single, “Boy Toy,” co-written with Kyle Davidson, reflects an artist now fully in command of her sound – a blend of R&B, soul, neo-soul, hip hop, and house drawn from influences as varied as Aaliyah and Chaka Khan. Every step along the way, from her first recordings to her most recent release, has been building toward a moment like this one.
The Josie Music Awards nomination now gives that journey a national stage. Receiving a nomination places Bria Cheri among an elite group of independent artists whose dedication, artistry, and passion continue to elevate the independent music community, and the September 20 ceremony will mark one of the most significant milestones of her career to date – a Queens-bred voice standing where country, soul, and every independent genre in between are celebrated as one.
“This nomination is an incredible honor,” said Bria Cheri. “To be recognized by the Josie Music Awards alongside so many talented independent artists is truly humbling. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported my journey and believed in my music.”
From a Queens piano bench to the Grand Ole Opry House stage, Bria Cheri’s road to the Josie Music Awards is proof that a voice built on patience, discipline, and storytelling will always find its way to the biggest stage in the business.
