Final Fantasy 10 25th Anniversary Marked With Official Square Enix Release

Movies

Released in 2001, Final Fantasy 10 remains one of the most influential RPGs ever made, and 2026 officially marks the beloved classic’s 25th anniversary. As the first mainline Final Fantasy title on the PlayStation 2, it represented a massive leap for Square, introducing fully voiced dialogue for the first time, unforgettable cutscenes, highly detailed 3D environments, and facial animations that at the time were mind-blowing for many gamers.

Beyond its technical achievements, FFX’s story was one that still resonates with fans of the franchise, not to mention the novel turn-based mechanics and Sphere Grid progression that remain some of the franchise’s most talked-about features to this day. The game’s success helped establish the PlayStation 2 as the premier platform for JRPGs in general, and influenced countless titles to come.

Even 25 years later, Final Fantasy 10 continues to attract new audiences with the Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD Remaster, and Square Enix is officially celebrating the momentous occasion with an official new release, a brand-new trailer (via YouTube), and an exciting upcoming new event (via Silicon Era).

For starters, Final Fantasy fans looking to celebrate FFX’s 25th in style will want to mark their calendars for the official launch of the X/X-2 HD Remake on Switch 2 on July 23, expanding the game’s platform availability to a whole new audience. The remake will be listed on the Nintendo Store for $49.99, and is just the beginning of Square Enix’s FFX 25th anniversary celebration announcements.

The above trailer was also officially revealed yesterday as a celebration of the game’s 25th anniversary, featuring iconic moments from the epic adventure, and getting fans hyped for the upcoming X/X-2 launch on Switch 2, new merch available on Amazon, and more. Further, Square Enix will host the Final Fantasy X Museum – Memories of Pyreflies exhibition in Tokyo from September 12–27, 2026.

The limited-time event will feature never-before-seen development materials, concept art, and other rare production artifacts that showcase the creation of one of the franchise’s most beloved entries. Fans can also expect an exclusive merchandise shop with commemorative anniversary goods available only at the exhibition.

While Square Enix has yet to reveal the full exhibit lineup, additional details, ticket information, and merchandise announcements will be shared closer to the opening. The company is also inviting fans to submit artwork and personal memories of Final Fantasy 10, with select entries set to be displayed as part of the exhibition itself.
