Warning: Spoilers ahead for Dutton Ranch season 1, episode 8.Dutton Ranch‘s future will certainly include more drama.
Dutton Ranch began with Yellowstone, created by Taylor Sheridan, which exploded from a singular series into an entire franchise. The franchise tells the multi-generational saga of the Dutton family and their legacy. Dutton Ranch picks up where Yellowstone left off, as Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and her husband, Rip Wheeler (played by Cole Hauser), must rebuild what they left behind in Montana.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley, actor Sterlin English, known for his role as Austin Lewis in Dutton Ranch, spoke about the latest news of a second season being ordered, as well as his hopes for the future of the series, including what he hopes it will bring for his character. When asked if he’s aware of plans for season 2 and his initial response to the news, the actor discussed the dynamics behind-the-scenes of the latest Sheridan saga.
Sterlin English: I’m not at all. Everything’s kind of quiet right now, but the season 2 news being out there is just an amazing feeling. It’s a great feeling that everybody loved the show as much as we loved making it, because truthfully, everybody on the show had the best time. The whole cast, the whole crew, all the directors – literally everybody on the show. Everybody had such good chemistry that it was a dream.
ScreenRant: Are there any actors that you were on set with that you’re hoping to get more screen time with next season?
Sterlin English: I would love to work with Ed Harris. I would absolutely love to, and I think that would be amazing. I love working with Mark Menchaca and J.R. Villarreal, and I loved working with Hart Denton – RIP. I really loved working with him, and those were some of the best times. Some of my best friends are on this show.
I’d love some stuff with Natalie. That would be fun. I would love some stuff with Finn. I think that would be amazing. And, of course, Cole and Kelly. It’s just so awesome working with those guys. When you have heavy hitters in front of you, working with you, it makes your job so much easier because they’re stars.
English’s character, Austin Lewis, is a cowboy at the 10 Petal Ranch, who has deep suspicions of Beulah Jackson (played by Annette Bening). At the end of episode 8, Austin plays a key role in exposing the schemes and acts as a whistleblower, revealing the true nature of the 10 Petal Ranch and its cattle smuggling operation in Mexico. His actions could lead to an explosive season finale ahead of what is expected to be an intense second season.
It hasn’t been confirmed if English will be returning for season 2 of Dutton Ranch, but it’s certainly expected given his important role, especially during the final moments of season 1. It’s also expected that Hauser and Reilly will be reprising their roles as the main characters and the true heart of the Yellowstone spinoff.
