Jason Statham’s highly-anticipated Beekeeper sequel has passed a big production milestone as it buzzes its way toward theaters.
Beekeeper 2 director Timo Tjahjanto confirmed in a social media post that filming has wrapped on the follow-up to 2024’s surprise hit action film charting the violent exploits of the world’s most dedicated hive-protector.
“What an incredible, exhausting, hardcore, enlightening, and ultimately beautiful journey it has been,” the director posted. “I’ve never been so humbled and perpetually inspired by the constant presence of these larger-than-life cast and crew that are just absolutely the best at what they do,” he continued.
“Will miss this experience and counting the days to be working with all of you again,” Tjahjanto wrapped up.
David Ayer directed the original Beekeeper, but stepped aside for the sequel, citing a full schedule. Tjahjanto joined Beekeeper 2 having just directed Bob Odenkirk in Nobody 2, which grossed $41 million after it released in August.
Speaking to ScreenRant ahead of Nobody 2’s release, Tjahjanto hinted at what he has in store for moviegoers as he takes the reins of the Beekeeper series, citing a favorite Marvel comic book character as an inspiration.
“I’m definitely drawn to the Beekeeper series just because when I watched it, I always felt that, ‘Wow, this is essentially Statham playing one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe, which is The Punisher,’” the director revealed.
Set images from Beekeeper 2 tease that the sequel will find Statham’s mysterious Adam Clay working alongside Emmy Raver-Lampman’s returning FBI agent Verona Parker. The photos show the two actors filming a street scene while brandishing weapons.
Jeremy Irons is also set to return as former CIA director Wallace Westwyld, along with Jemma Redgrave as president Danforth. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning star Plom Klementieff headlines the new additions to the cast, along with Adam Copeland and Yara Shahidi.
Released on January 12, 2024, The Beekeeper went on to surprise box office watchers by grossing a healthy $162 million worldwide on a budget of $40 million. The film was also a hit with critics, and currently sits at 71% on Rotten Tomatoes.
ScreenRant’s Beekeeper review praises the film for its well-staged set pieces and high entertainment value, calling it a “non-stop action flick that is high on adrenaline.”
The Beekeeper 2 was confirmed in February 2025, with shooting kicking off on September 26 at Shepperton Studios in England. The film does not yet have a release date.
