Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams Are Ready for ‘Mean Girls 2’

LGBTQ Entertainment News

It’s the year of sequels! With a Freaky Friday sequel already in production, why not add a Mean Girls 2? We would love to see what Regina George is up to these days. And we’re not alone!

Revisiting the Pink: Are Cady and Regina Teaming Up Again?

Hold on to your tiaras, because a Mean Girls sequel might just be in the works, and fans are here for it! Could we see the return of Regina George and Cady Heron in the halls of high school—or perhaps, their adult lives?

The Buzz Straight from the Source

PEOPLE magazine recently spilled some seriously juicy details. Both Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, who breathed life into Cady and Regina back in 2004, are reportedly “open” to a sequel. The whispers around Hollywood are that Lohan, now 37, is all in. “She wants to do another [Mean Girls] and has a good relationship with her former cast members,” including Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert. A close source shared, “They are her friends and have been. Another film would be great for her and for audiences who loved the original.”

What’s Up with McAdams?

Despite skipping a Walmart reunion ad last fall with Seyfried and Chabert, insiders say McAdams “would likely do a Mean Girls sequel if everything presented to her made sense.” She’s committed to other projects but has expressed interest in revisiting her role as queen bee Regina George, reflecting on how life might have shaped her character years later.

Lingering Hopes and Dream Sequels

The Mean Girls ensemble has been vocal about their connections and their unique bond, often reminiscing about their time on set. In a heartfelt chat for Interview Magazine, Seyfried mused about the possibility of a sequel, saying, “A Mean Girls 2 is never going to happen, is it?” To which Lohan replied, acknowledging the special memories they hold, “Yeah, everyone’s still the same. It’s fun to have certain memories that we can’t share with anyone else.”

Is ‘Mean Girls 2’ Going to Happen?

Interestingly, the possibility of a sequel seems to hinge on Tina Fey, the original screenwriter. At the New York City premiere of the Mean Girls movie musical, where Lohan made a surprise appearance, Daniel Franzese hinted that the cast is ready to dive back in, saying, “You got to tell the boss lady over there… she’s the gatekeeper, so we’re all waiting.”

So, could a sequel be the natural next step?

What’s Next for Our Favorite Mean Girls?

With the 20-year mark approaching since the original movie’s debut, the nostalgia and affection for Mean Girls have only intensified. As we look forward to seeing where life has taken Cady, Regina, and the rest of the gang, the excitement and potential for a sequel continue to build. Will Tina Fey unlock the door for another round of Plastics’ shenanigans? Stay tuned.
