Summer House Star Danielle Olivera Gives Details On Falling Out With Lindsay Hubbard; Says Lindsay Is “Self-Absorbed”

Reality TV

A lot has changed since Summer House first premiered back in 2017. A group of working young adults who drank in the Hamptons every weekend have evolved into a group of working adults who fight in the Hamptons every weekend.

What viewers have been able to connect with is the evolution of “real” relationships amongst the cast. Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula went from booty calls to marriage and working together. Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard went from casual sex to an engagement. It took jumping over some hurdles, but they eventually got there.

Lindsay has also enjoyed a blossoming friendship with co-star Danielle Olivera. Danielle provided a smidge of stability to Lindsay’s often over-bearing personality. Danielle has shown, at least on camera, to be a loyal and honest friend. She has provided support during Lindsay’s up and down love life, but their relationship took a turn for the worse when Lindsay and Carl officially became an item.

Now Danielle attempts to explain what happened to result in the possible end of the only real female relationship we’ve seen Lindsay have. According to Entertainment Tonight, Danielle’s problem with Lindsay is– Lindsay. She said, “What’s the opposite of empathy?” Um, the opposite of empathy is probably Lindsay in this scenario.

Danielle added, ”Maybe most of our friendship was about me helping her and that’s why it went so well because I was always there for her. Whatever she needed to talk about, I was always there. But now, she’s not really checking in. I’m building a business, she’s not really asking me questions about it. That’s when I started being like, OK, what is this?”

Apparently, things didn’t go well when Danielle and Lindsay tried to work it out. ”She never had to go to bat for me, and I’ve never really stood up for myself with her, like, on what I need until now, and she didn’t even get it. She didn’t respond well, she didn’t even understand that it was a possibility that that could be the case, because she’s the word I use in the beginning, self-absorbed.”

Danielle isn’t the only one feeling some type of way about Lindsay. Thus far into the season, many of Lindsay’s friendships outside of Carl are going haywire. Danielle also said Lindsay’s reluctance to go out partying during an episode was a contributing factor to her irritation. “The one night did contribute to it, because she’s like, ‘Why do I have to do in Montauk?’ Because I wanted to go to Montauk, where my boyfriend is, where my friends are — the place that you’ve always gone with me as my friend,” she added.

Lindsay’s lack of desire to party could be a nod to her sober fiancé. Still, it set Danielle off. ”You can’t all of a sudden do that because you’re in a relationship? I don’t get it. It just contributed to the fact that my best friend, she doesn’t need me anymore. So I’m being cast aside. What if I needed you to go to Montauk, because… I don’t know, it could be anything! Maybe I just need it for me. Can you consider me for a second?” Danielle said.

In all fairness there haven’t been a lot of times on camera Lindsay has been the poster child for empathy. Season 7 marks Lindsay’s first summer as an engaged woman. Before Lindsay and Carl began dating in 2021, the group dubbed themselves “The Three Amigos.” Danielle claims she has been nothing but a supporter for the couple, contrary to Lindsay and Carl’s speculations Danielle isn’t on board.

“I’m always going to be rooting for her and her relationship,” Danielle continued, “but I have to focus on No. 1, and I finally think that I I found my voice, and … maybe the timing wasn’t what she wanted.” Danielle’s long-term relationship with chef Robert Sieber recently ended. This caused Lindsay to believe Danielle felt weird about her and Carl. Danielle asserts that this is not the case. She considers all of Lindsay’s hypotheses regarding the breakdown of their friendship to be “ridiculous.”

“I’m not a jealous person, especially when it comes to my friends’ relationships,” Danielle shared. “Like, my friends could be getting engaged right now in front of my face and I would always root them on. I am not that person who, if I’m going through something, I want everyone around me to be miserable. That is just not the case.” We get it, definitely not jealous. Sure, Jan.

That said, Danielle stands firm that her issues are with Lindsay, not Lindsay and Carl. “My issue has been with Lindsay. I thought Carl and I were in a good spot — turns out we weren’t — I don’t know how much of that has to do with Lindsay or not, but my beef is with Lindsay.” Not Danielle insinuating Lindsay is trying to take the shine off of Carl and Danielle’s friendship! Actually, that tracks considering Danielle and Carl used to date.

She continued, ”She [Lindsay] kept making it about like, I’m not happy for her relationship. I was trying to express my need, my want to have my best friend back, and what I need out of the friendship, and she kind of made it, ‘Well, you’re not happy for me and Carl so…’ and I’m just like, that’s not– that’s not it. Like, I’m never gonna break through here. I’m talking in circles, and I’m wasting my breath and my energy, and I don’t need this anymore, like I just really don’t need it.”

Danielle indeed sounds very peeved, “It’s challenging when you feel like you’re not being heard, or everything that you’re saying is just hitting a brick wall,” she says. “I think that we are in two different parts of our lives; she’s in gung-ho trying to get a ring on it [mode], and I’m like, I want to build a company and be this bada**. … I thought that we could still come together and root for each other.”

Lindsay also seems to think the other cast members of Summer House conspired to turn Danielle against her. It might be easier to accept your general attitude sucks instead of creating a fantasy mutiny. “Think about that. Poisoned me against her? How many years have we been doing this? And they’ve never been able to get to me?” She said, “I just think that that hurts me, coming from Lindsay, because that says that I’m this weak person who can be flip-flopped by any conversation coming from these girls. Like, that’s– no, that’s not it.”

Danielle explained when she went into the house this season, she told the other ladies she wanted to hang out and improve their bonds. According to Danielle, the reason why her co-stars were previously hesitant was because of, you guessed it, Lindsay. She said, “If a girl in the house asks me a question, do you think I would be answering it? Yeah, I’m gonna answer it. And then immediately Lindsay thinks that I’m talking behind her back, that I’m betraying her.”

She continued, “Lindsay, the only reason why you feel that way is because you don’t like these girls, and you’ve never been honest about it. ‘Oh, everything’s fine. We’re good.’ No, you’re not fine. You’re not good. You don’t like each other. I’m done being in the crossfire.”

Danielle also believes Lindsay mistakes her empathy for weakness. “I am just a really loyal friend. I-I love Lindsay — very hard — and I go hard in the paint, and I’m very protective of my friends,” she stated. “I am not this puppet that everyone can just move around and I’ll do as they say. I have my own opinions. I’ve been pretty clear on that;  I speak up when I feel strongly about something.”

If that’s not enough, Lindsay might think Danielle is doing all of this for the television drama factor. “I’ve been called the most boring cast member because I don’t strive for a storyline, like, the storyline happens to me. I have never, ever been someone who reaches for a storyline, and Lindsay knows that, because we have talked about it in the past about other people.”

Danielle said, “She knows that I would never, ever in a million years be that person to contrive something for the sake of a storyline. To be honest, it was actually quite lovely, being more the supporting cast member, and not, like, all up in the trailer.”

Danielle included that her old buddy didn’t reach out when she and Robert hit the skids. “I really expected that something like, ‘Hey, I know we’re not speaking… I know things are, like, really bad right with between us right now, but if you need me…’ kind of thing, but I didn’t get it.” Unfortunately, people in hell want ice water and they don’t get that, either.

On the bright side, Danielle says her friendships with the rest of the house members blossomed in Lindsay’s absence and she’s grateful. As for Lindsay, looks like all she has is Carl. Hopefully, these two can figure out their differences and get back on track. Or Carl is going to be making sandwiches alone for a very long time.
