Chrono Cross Content Coming To Another Eden In Official Crossover

Movies

A long-dormant video game is about to return, as Chrono Cross will be part of a crossover with Another Eden, in the upcoming Complex Dream event. This crossover is bound to fuel more speculation that the rumored Chrono Cross Remaster is real, as Square Enix has barely referenced the property in over twenty years.

Another Eden is a free to play RPG that is available on Android and iOS devices, as well as Windows PC. The game already has a strong connection to the Chrono series, as it shares the same writer (Masato Kato) and composer (Yasunori Mitsuda). Another Eden also shares a lot of story similarities with the Chrono series, due to its time-traveling element. It also has a playable character named Cyrus, who is a sword-wielding froglike humanoid. This character bears remarkable similarities to Glenn, a sword-wielding froglike humanoid from Chrono Trigger, who was a squire to a knight named Cyrus.

A recent datamine of Another Eden hinted at a Chrono Cross crossover. In a press release, Wright Flyer Studios and Square Enix have now confirmed that this crossover event is real. The Complex Dream event will be set in a parallel timeline, where Aldo (the protagonist of Another Eden) failed to defeat the Beast King. This results in the characters from Another Eden traveling to the dimension where Chrono Cross is set. There they will encounter characters like Serge, Kid, Harle, and Lynx. Players will be able to recruit Serge, Kid, and Harle through completing quests, and they won’t be tied to any gacha elements. The Chrono Cross characters will also be voiced for the first time.

The Complex Dream event will involve new and familiar music tracks, supervised by Yasunori Mitsuda. Complex Dream will include elements from Chrono Cross, including a New Game+ mode, branching storylines, multiple endings, the Star Level system, and Combat Techs. The Complex Dream name itself is interesting, as it could be a reference to Radical Dreamers: the Japan-exclusive SNES/Satellaview game that was adapted into Chrono Cross.

Chrono Cross has something of a polarizing reputation. Many people think it’s an amazing game, but some believe it does a disservice to the beloved characters from Chrono Trigger. Controversy over Chrono Cross aside, though, it’s been a long time since the Chrono series received a new entry, which means that there is an entire generation of gamers who can look at Chrono Cross with fresh eyes. The evidence around a Chrono Cross Remaster is growing, and the Another Eden crossover could be the first step in a revival for the series, as well as giving gamers a new perspective on Serge’s adventure.
