The fan who leaked unofficial set footage of Timothée Chalamet’s Willy Wonka shared his first impressions of the Twonka (twink Wonka) awaiting us in cinemas.

Chalamet stan Art Doherty, 21, couldn’t believe their luck when they spotted the prequel musical Wonka being filmed on their doorstep in Lyme Regis, Dorset on Tuesday.

Doherty inadvertently found themselves with a front row seat to the action as a fully-costumed Chalamet was driven through the set on top of a truck, a jaunty musical track playing in the background.

“Now it’s time to show the world my recipe / I’ve got 12 silver sovereigns in my pocket / And a hat full of dreams,” Chalamet merrily sings in the recording.

The footage has already been viewed over 450,000 times.

Doherty watched the star “skipping around with his little cane and his hat,” clearly happy to lean into his theatre-kid roots.

Later Chalamet was spotted again as he filmed another scene on the waterfront, with Doherty capturing him gazing out to sea “like a patron saint of the twinks”.

After setting the internet on fire with the first-look footage Doherty spoke to Vulture of their lucky discovery, confirming that yes, Chalamet’s hair was everything they’d hoped it would be.

“He was chilling on the roof of a truck whilst they were getting ready to set [the scene] up and the hat kept coming off during downtime which I really loved.  I just think that’s really nice, like in character/out of character,” he said.

“The sun was shining on [his hair], it was bouncy and golden and even more beautiful than I could ever imagine.”

As for the acting? According to Doherty, Chalamet’s Twonka firmly cements the star’s hallowed status as the “Straight Prince of Twinks”.

“He is [a twink]. I’m sorry. I’m not attaching any other labels other than twink. I think you can’t disagree with that,” they said.

“It’s just the walk. If you’re gonna do a young Willy Wonka, he’s gonna end up being a twink by nature. But the joie de vivre from the walk and the way he’s just bouncing along with a little top hat and tails, it’s just twinky behaviour. There’s no other way to put it. I’m sorry.”

Clearly the role was crying out for some strong twink energy, as Doherty says Chalamet’s performance was spot on Wonka, even from a distance.

“Like, the body language was so good. Even just from his walk I was like, ‘He’s got this down,’” they said.

Sadly the film isn’t expected to debut until 2023, so Chalamet’s twinky Wonka will have to remain “pure imagination” until then.
