Why Warzone’s OTs 9 SMG Has Dominated The Meta | Screen Rant

Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

With Season 6’s arrival, the Call of Duty: Warzone meta could finally see the end of the OTs 9 SMG’s domination. Having one of the fastest time-to-kills in the game, the SMG filled Warzone lobbies in Season 5 and became many players’ go-to close-range weapon. Here’s what’s made the Warzone OTs 9 build so powerful – and so different from the other SMGs in the game.

The popular OTs 9 build included the following elements: GRU Suppressor Muzzle, Task Force Barrel, KGB Skeletal Stock, VDV 40 Rnd Fast Mag, and Serpent Wrap Handle. This and similar Warzone Season 5 builds offered potent damage and mobility for up-close engagements. Relative to the versatile Cold War MP5, the OTs 9 has a faster reload time, quicker strafe speed, higher fire rate, and greater damage.

That strafe speed, provided by the Task Force Barrel attachment, is one of the biggest advantages the weapon offers in a gunfight. It lets players move faster while shooting, making them a more evasive target. Being able to more effectively dodge enemies’ aim can be the difference between life and death in Warzone. The OTs 9’s strafe boasts an extra 14% speed compared to the Cold War MP5.

This is not to say the OTs 9 is better than Warzone’s other SMGs in every way. One of the biggest drawbacks of the weapon is its noticeably low magazine count. The 40-round VDV Fast Mag is its largest magazine, so players will find themselves having to reload much more often than when using the 85-round Bullfrog or the 50-round Cold War MP5. The OTs 9 also has one of the highest fire rates in Warzone, at 855 rounds per minute, so those 40 rounds are emptied quickly. The combination of these factors has made it critical for players to be accurate with their OTs 9 shots when taking on full squads.

The OTs 9 will likely be a relevant part of the Warzone meta until a higher-TTK SMG takes its place. A nerf is always a possibility, but one is unlikely to happen soon, due to the fact that OTs 9 was nerfed in a recent Warzone update already. Season 6 should shake up Warzone’s weapon balance, however, so the OTs 9 could see its place at the top disappear.
