Tom Hiddleston Taught Loki School On Show Set | Screen Rant

Movies

Tom Hiddleston taught Loki School for the show’s cast and crew. The actor has been playing the God of Mischief since the original Thor movie in 2011, becoming a fan-favorite in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hiddleston reprised the role in two Thor sequels and three Avengers movies, with the character meeting his end in the opening moments of Avengers: Infinity War. But thanks to Loki’s cameo in Avengers: Endgame (where he got away with the Tesseract during the Time Heist), Hiddleston is back in his iconic role for Marvel’s latest Disney+ series.

Loki uses Endgame as a jumping off point, meaning the Loki starring in the show is a variant who hasn’t gone through his redemption arc. In some respects, Hiddleston is turning back the clock to channel Loki at his most mischievous, when he was still more villain than antihero. Still, he has a wealth of knowledge about the character after portraying him for so long, and the Loki creative team made sure to lean on that when working on the show.

In EW’s profile on Hiddleston, Loki director Kate Herron discussed the “Loki School” she had Hiddleston run, where the actor recapped his MCU journey to date in great detail for all the series departments:

“I got him to do a thing called Loki School when we first started. I asked him to basically talk through his 10 years of the MCU — from costumes to stunts, to emotionally how he felt in each movie. It was fantastic.”

It was smart of Herron to put this together. Viewers anticipating Loki are well-versed in the character’s story and history, but not everyone knows the full story – including those working on the show. Owen Wilson was lectured by Hiddleston on MCU lore, which ended up helping inform his performance as TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius. Besides just getting the rest of the cast and crew up to speed on Loki’s extensive past, these classes were probably also beneficial because of the invaluable insight Hiddleston provided. He’d be able to elaborate beyond what was seen onscreen, giving his co-workers a far greater understanding of the character. Even MCU diehards who have been around for a while probably learned a thing or two from picking Hiddleston’s brain.

Fortunately for Herron, Loki School looks like it will pay off. The show is shaping up to be a winner for Marvel and Disney+, as it ranks as one of the most anticipated Marvel and DC projects on the horizon. Based on marketing materials, Loki looks to be a great deal of fun, and it should be exciting to see what it brings to the table. Loki has always been one of the most popular MCU characters, but he’s largely been relegated to supporting roles. Now he has a chance to shine (free from Thor’s shadow too), and Hiddleston seems delighted for the opportunity.
