PS5 Needs To Take These Features From Xbox | Screen Rant

After the PlayStation 4’s success in the previous console generation, Sony is looking to amp things up with the upcoming PlayStation 5. Overall, Sony’s fourth home console was a fairly successful venture with many great exclusive games and features. Undoubtedly, the PS4 will be remembered for its fantastic library, accessibility, and ease of use, but looking at many of the Xbox One‘s features could help the new PS5 system reach its true potential.

Regardless of the PS4’s time in the limelight, it is time for the next system to take its place. Much information about the PS5 has already been revealed. The controller looks like a slick evolution of Sony’s previous designs. The console has a very seemingly “clean” look to it, as the white and black colors match up well. And perhaps most important, many new games and projects have already been announced for the platform. While the future seems bright for Sony, one can’t help but wonder what other features are planned for the console.

While both Sony and Microsoft have had similar titles on both of their consoles, the one thing that always sets them apart is console exclusives. In the next generation, it’s doubtful that the PS5 will begin to adopt some of Microsoft’s titles. However, the Xbox One has many fantastic features the PS5 could seriously benefit from.

Features The PS5 Should Consider

Sony Playstation 5

The Xbox One has a “Remote-like controller” that seems ideal for browsing apps like Netflix and Hulu. For many casual gamers, they might not use their console for playing games as much as they do for these less stimulating tasks. Video streaming services are so commonplace that having a remote controller could seriously be a great addition for a more laid-back audience. Around a decade ago, Nintendo found much success with the “remote controller” concept in the form of the WiiAlthough the purpose of such a controller would be different for the PS5it could still be a great addition to the console.

There are other missing features in the PS4 that are somewhat perplexing. It can’t play 4K Blu-ray discs while Xbox One can with ease. The importance of this feature goes past a simple movie viewing, though. 4K discs can hold much more space, obviously allowing game discs to carry even more content. Also, especially with older PS4 models, the built-in fan which cools the console down can get very loud when playing more demanding titles. This is less on an issue with the PS4 Pro, but hearing the console rumbling during an intense or heart-wrenching moment can definitely take a player out of the game fast. Both these changes would greatly alter exactly how the console itself works, and would generally just make playing it a more pleasant and modern experience.

The biggest feature Sony should consider for its upcoming console is backwards compatibility with older titles. The Xbox One could play not only Xbox 360 titles with ease but also titles from the original XboxThe PS4 couldn’t read the discs of any of its predecessors. Although it’s a small feature to omit, the ability to own one console that plays everything is a huge advantage that often goes unnoticed. While Sony did provide some older titles through its online service, the library is very limited and it must be paid for. Overall, the PS5 could become a revolutionary console. It seems with the PS4 Sony had many great ideas but missed the mark with other smaller details and features. If the PS5 can write the small wrongdoings of its older brother, a serious juggernaut of a console might be almost here.
