AV Super Sunshine’s new song “Baby, Goodbye”

Movies, News

Underneath the crushing guitars and rolling percussion, AV Super Sunshine’s new song “Baby, Goodbye” is a kiss to the sky. It’s a love letter to possibilities and the endless array of flashback sonic bliss, held together with pop nuances. Featuring the bottled optimism of lead singer AV Super Sunshine, with outstanding guest vocalist Ruby Amanfu and other top players – “Baby, Goodbye” is another hit for the Wisconsin-based AV Super Sunshine.

A main part of the song’s appeal is the music bed. Bassist and contributor Michael Bradford lends in a unique hybrid of pop rock and bluesy, Deep Purple-like metal to the music. Bradford, who’s long resume includes collaboration with Madonna, Kid Rock, Uncle Cracker, Ringo Star and more, is Detroit-based. AV Super Sunshine’s global sound is evident in “Baby, Goodbye” with that fresh mix of bass and the electronic keyboard. The organ-like sound throws off 60s and 70s psychedelic vibes pretty heavy. Alongside the careful and pristine vocals of Amandfu, a Nashville-based singer, the result is an oceanic wave of rock, soul and far-out grooves.

The deep, heaving breathing AV Super Sunshine makes when he sings “goodbye” is like the ocean breeze skipping over the waves. It collects sand and little beats of percussion, in this case, that’s when the drum work courtesy of Brad Pemberton (Steve Earle & The Dukes). The mid-tempo song kicks up about the song’s bridge and AV Super Sunshine lets loose more on his guitar. He sings about the places to go to enjoy the day and the coffee shop one had me smiling. Let’s go downtown / to the coffee shop / let’s go / we’ll drink a lot, he sings. I think AV Super Sunshine has a real hotspot for finding key pop song lyrics that give you positive vibes. He has a knack for mashing together sounds underneath those words that lift up the psyche, release a power punch that celebrates each instrument. At one point he sings, maybe we’ll fly, and judging by his assurance, I think that might actually be possible with someone like him.

Prior to “Baby, Goodbye” AV Super Sunshine has enjoyed a string of successful indie music chart hits like “Smile”, “Alien Abduction”, “Crazy Love” and “Just Like Kirk”.  “Baby, Goodbye” has actually had several re-records and mixes. AV Super Sunshine keeps pushing boundaries and changing little nuances. What hasn’t changed is the song’s core pronounced joy. You can tell these artists were really loving the song they completed – it’s evident in the rawness and the synergy. You can’t fake that. What does the song mean to me? It means a journey to find someone in your day that makes you happy. There are an infinite amount of ways to enjoy your day and if you really look for them, they are typically right in front of your face. I think what AV Super Sunshine is trying to convey is that you just have to walk around, stroll down the sidewalk and you can find something that really makes you smile. “Baby, Goodbye” is the first on the list.
