Fortnite’s New FireJar Throwable Is a Game Changer For Season 3 Play

Movies

As previously leaked by data miners, Fortnite has officially released the FireJar throwable item and it is a game-changer. The release of the FireJar follows the release of Fortnite’s updated fire mechanics making the FireJar one of the most powerful items in the game. While the FireJar is a rare item to find, finding one can determine the outcome of an intense fight.

At the start of season 3, Fortnite updated the game’s mechanics allowing fire to spread, damage players, and tear down structures. Before the addition of the FireJar, fire could only be created by destroying static items in the game such as gas pumps, or by destroying gas canisters which could not be stored in the player’s inventory. The FireJar allows the player to create fire anywhere at any time through the use of a portable and storable fire grenade.

A clip posted to Twitter by user GavinK1ng shows how players can obtain a FireJar, and what it looks like when it is thrown. GavinK1ing has posted a series of videos to his timeline that shows the FireJar damaging a shark and lighting it on fire. The FireJar is obtained by collecting fireflies at a specific location on the map which is also pictured on GavinK1ng’s Twitter. So far, the location that GavinK1ng shows is the only known location where fireflies spawn.

The inclusion of the FireJar is something that had been leaked before the item’s official release, but what wasn’t leaked was how the FireJar would operate. It functions identically to a Molotov cocktail where the jar can be thrown and fire will spread to the surrounding area wherever it lands. Buildings that are hit by the FireJar will catch on fire and will take damage over time, and the fire will spread to adjacent builds. Players who are hit with the jar will take immediate damage, and players who remain in the fire will take 10 points of damage every second. Players can catch fire by standing on/near burning builds as well as standing in the FireJar’s pool of fire.

While Fortnite has added items, like the Stink Bomb, that force players to move out of where they are hiding, this is the first item that also destroys the builds that are affected. As well, Stink Bombs deal a small amount of damage to players, while FireJars deal 10 damage every second. The fire also spreads to nearby builds, whereas Stink Bombs stayed in a single area. Although this new item is hard to come by, it will give a huge advantage to the person who wields it. And it will be interesting to see how competitive players fair when their builds are consumed by a raging fire.
