Bob Mould Announces New Album Blue Hearts, Shares Protest Song “American Crisis”

Music, News

Bob Mould has announced a new album. It’s called Blue Hearts and it’s out September 25 via Merge. In a press release, Mould refers to the 14-track album as “the catchiest batch of protest songs I’ve ever written in one sitting.” He has also shared the first single, “American Crisis.” Check out the lyric video below.

“‘American Crisis’ is a tale of two times,” Mould explained in a statement. “Past Time and Present Time. The parallels between 1984 and 2020 are a bit scary for me: telegenic, charismatic leaders, praised and propped up by extreme Evangelicals, either ignoring an epidemic (HIV/AIDS) or being outright deceitful about a pandemic (COVID-19).”

Between today and Sunday, June 7, proceeds from “American Crisis” will benefit OutFront Minnesota and Black Visions Collective. Bob Mould’s latest record Sunshine Rock was released last year.
