You have such a unique sound, Please tell us about your new album!

My new album, Thou Art That is my newest completed project. I’m really excited to present my newest accomplishment to the world. It has been a passion project. I wrote all songs on the album. I played piano and sang on all tracks. It has been a journey getting this album made. I am unique so of course my music is also. I stayed true to each song and how I originally heard it in my head. It had to be done because I am on a mission to stay true to my life’s purpose. I was hoping to add to that. About the album Thou Art That being a real album meant to be listened to from the beginning to the end. Very old school, I know, I do what I like. I like listening to albums and I know I’m not alone in that. So I made this album with the listeners in mind. I put my heart and soul into each song.

What was your favorite part of making the album?

My favorite part of making this album was when each hurdle was conquered. So I had many a favorite moment. It has been an amazing feeling to have so many talented people to work with. Each moment experienced was with gratitude. Even the rough days.

Any pre show rituals or studio rituals to share with our readers?

Since recording and performing live are somewhat similar but different experiences I have somewhat similar but different rituals before hand. Live performances I’ll meditate, do voice warm ups and do something to get my heart pumping, like jumping jacks. I like to be in the moment for my live performances. That way I can let the moment take me where it needs to. Having an audiences energy to play off of I will sometimes add lib during a concert, taking the song to a place it’s never gone before. I allow the music to move through me creating something special for each performance so that it’s not the same thing every time.   For recording sessions I meditate, do vocal warm ups and get my mindset back to where it was when I first wrote the song. It is personal and intimate in a studio setting. I like to be emotionally present for a meaningful delivery for both live and recording studio performances. Oh I’d like to add to that I’m with the band playing a show I feel it’s important to make a connection with the audience. When it comes to recording the songs , they need to be entertaining and connect with the listeners on a personal level.

Any surprises in store for 2020?

For 2020 there will be a lot going on for the Thou Art That album tour. I will be in Arizona and Texas. Kicking off the tour in LA at The Write Off Room. Any advice for young artists starting out on the LA music scene?
The advice I have for any (young or older) artist starting out is to stay true to yourself. Stay true to how you hear your music. Stay true to how you’d like people to see and know you. Staying true to yourself sounds easy but I assure you it is not. In this world we are told that who we are is not good enough, that to sound and look like someone else is an achievement. Conforming and fitting perfectly in a labeled box. It is a way more difficult a task to not conform and to follow your own heart beat as opposed to a sample (beat) someone else came up with that has already been played out. A lot of what is being pushed on the airwaves is repeated sounds. To the point where you can’t tell them apart. Of course, if I’m giving advice to someone that wants riches and fame, I’d have to be honest and say I’m the wrong person, for that advice i cannot give. Those are not my reasons for why I write and sing. I do it because it gives me joy and I am on a mission to stay true to who I am and share a message for those who will listen.
