Interview with Cassandra Jewel

Celebrity, Music, News

You have a great new single out, can you tell us more about it?

Yes absolutely. Battle is the struggle of my mind. It is about giving my energy away to people who I shouldn’t be, caring what these people might think and making assumptions when I absolutely shouldn’t be. It then turns around to become a song of awareness and healing within myself. It’s like my theme song. I say this all the time because it’s the battle of my mind. Honestly, I relive a lot of the lyrics I express in this song every now and then and I literally have to remind myself to listen to what I preach. I mean I say to “Get right, go clear that (s#@!) right now.” So lets actually do that. You feel me? Lets go meditate. Or even just sit and breathe and release what doesn’t serve me anymore. What I love about this song is the duality of it. It captures two sides of myself. In the first half of the song I am a bit frustrated talking about my own doubts, insecurities and expressing the chaos and OCD thoughts in my head. In the second half- it’s a bit more soft and I have come to an awareness of why I am feeling what I am feeling. I come to the awareness that even if someone may be thinking something negative about who I am, who cares!! Because that is their own personal problem and I in no way need to give my energy to that. The song ends with coming to find healing.

Love the video! What is the story behind it?

Thank you! The story behind the video is “ We will never silence a chaotic mind while trying to escape our shadows.”  We have to face what is going on within us…. even if it’s hard to face. And honestly it can be. But I am telling you this will lead to so much freedom. When we can face what is going on within ourselves, and understand that a lot of the changes we need in our life have to start with us, we attract miracles. This video shows the struggle between the light and darkness in the environment I am in as well as within my own self. In every scene the light is shining through the darkness. The light is always there and will never leave us or be gone. It is always there to guide us to a higher, clearer place. We just have to listen.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?

I would describe my music in this time of my life as soul-trap with a splash of ambience. My music is very personal and detailed in regards to my own life experiences. I also touch on lots of personal struggles and thoughts within myself, self discovery and how I came to and am still healing.

Do you have any shows planned for 2020?

Yes! 🙂 I will be sharing more details in regards to shows reallllly soon!

What was your greatest accomplishment of 2019?

My greatest accomplishment of 2019 was writing, recording and finishing my EP!!
