Frozen II Is Finished And Josh Gad Claims The New Songs Are Even Catchier

Movies

Disney has always been known for its animated blockbusters, especially 90’s golden age including Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. As far as modern classics, there’s no Disney franchise quite as massive as Frozen. The 2013 blockbuster became a pop culture phenomenon that lasted years, with plenty of kids singing songs like “Let It Go” ad nauseam. But according to Olaf actor Josh Gad, the Frozen II‘s songs might be even better.

The music of Frozen was written by songwriting duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. They eventually expanded the score into a full length Broadway musical, which is currently running. But it looks like the music they’ve composed for Frozen II is particularly impressive. As Josh Gad recently put it:

Well, that’s certainly exciting. Moviegoers may have waited a number of years before the Frozen sequel finally arrives (complete with a time jump), but it seems the highly anticipated project will really deliver when it comes to music. In fact, the songs might be even better than the first film.

Josh Gad’s comments come from his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and might shock the hardcore Disney fans out there who have been singing Frozen‘s soundtrack for the past six years. Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez’s songs for the cast have already become iconic tracks from the Disney catalogue, in particular “Love is an Open Door” and Idina Menzel’s version of “Let It Go.”

“Let It Go” has been playing endlessly in the years since Frozen hit theaters, and is the fan favorite song/sequence from the animated blockbuster. So it’ll be interesting to see what the songwriters cook up for Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and Kristoff for the sequel. The latter is played by Broadway veteran Jonathan Groff, who didn’t get a ton of music to sing in the first movie. Smart money says that’ll be changed in Frozen II.

You can check out Josh Gad’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live below, and hear him compliment the music of Frozen II.

Just what that music might include is a mystery, and will likely remain so until the movie hits theaters on November. The first trailer showed of stunning visuals and an exciting new journey, but didn’t feature any of the new songs by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. But hopefully more footage is coming ahead of the movie’s long awaited release.

Frozen II will hit theaters on November 22nd, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
