Legendary actress Jane Fonda will be presented with the annual Life Achievement Award this year, SAG-AFTRA’s highest honor. And after 65 years in the industry—and a list of accolades that includes two Oscars, eight Golden Globes and an Emmy, not to mention her tireless off-screen activism—the 87-year-old’s determination to change the world through her work is what she values more than any award.
“I have just always felt that I wasn’t good enough,” Fonda told Variety in an interview published Feb. 19. “That has made the difference—that I was never satisfied, that I always wanted to get better. I know why I made the mistakes I did, and I know what was in my heart. And so I really worked at it, and I’m proud of myself that I didn’t settle.”
