Mary Steenburgen isn’t hiding anything about her relationship with Ted Danson

The Elf actress, who has been married to the Man on the Inside star since 1995, recently divulged how her view on her husband has changed since first meeting him—mostly thanks to an NSFW confession about their sex life.

I admired him so much as an actor, but I didn’t personally know him,” Mary recalled to People at the Golden Gala red carpet Jan. 3 of their first encounter. “And I had this stupid idea that he was, like, maybe kind of a slick guy.”

However, nearly 30 years into their marriage, Mary has a better understanding of the 2025 Golden Globe nominee—who was up for Best Actor in a Television Series—Musical or Comedy alongside Jeremy Allen White, Adam Brody, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Jason Segel at the Jan. 5 ceremony. “How wrong I was,” The Book Club actress, 71, continued. “Slick guys don’t say, ‘gosh-a-rooni,’ after making love. I’d like to apologize to my granddaughters.”
