British Fashion Council introduces 2024 New Wave: Creatives

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has unveiled its 2024 New Wave: Creatives, a list of the 50 most innovative and inspiring young creative talents who play a critical role within the fashion industry globally. The dynamic list includes trailblazers from across multiple disciplines including casting directors, photographers, art directors, hair and makeup artists, image makers, nail artists, set designers and stylists. The final 50 will be celebrated as part of The Fashion Awards (TFA) 2024 on December 2 at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

TFA, organised by the BFC, is the primary fundraiser for the BFC Foundation and celebrates the role of fashion at the intersection of culture and entertainment, spotlighting creative talent and telling the stories of the year in fashion through the lens of purpose, excellence, and creativity.

The BFC has announced its 2024 New Wave: Creatives, highlighting 50 young talents in various fashion disciplines.
These individuals will be celebrated at The Fashion Awards 2024 on December 2.
This initiative aims to recognise and support the diverse voices reshaping the industry, with the final selection guided by a panel of respected figures from the global fashion community.

“New Wave: Creatives is an invaluable platform for recognising and celebrating the diverse talents shaping the future of fashion, the community beyond the designers and creative directors. These emerging artists, often working behind the scenes, are redefining creativity across multiple disciplines and transforming the way fashion is experienced globally. The 2024 cohort represents an exciting new generation with innovative and diverse perspectives that are key to the industry’s evolution. We can’t wait to celebrate their contributions this December,” Caroline Rush, chief executive, British Fashion Council, said.

The final list is a resource for the global fashion industry which can support and inform the curation of teams for creative projects – accessible here. This list is also invaluable to the work of the BFC who continue to support and engage New Wave: Creatives alumni for various programmes, events and initiatives. This includes engaging Julie Lie to design the TFA 2023 trophy, Derrick Ofosu Boateng as the photographer for the winner’s room at TFA 2023, Tami Aftab as the photographer for the South Asian exhibition during LFW in June 2024 and Jade Adeyemi to design the TFA 2024 trophy, the BFC said in a press release.

This year voting began in July with the New Wave: Creatives from 2023 – the previous year’s community directly influencing 2024’s outcome, in support of their industry peers. An influential industry panel defined the final group of recipients for 2024. The panel featured some of the global fashion community’s most respected voices including; Alex Sossah, creative director & founder of Metallic Inc; Alva Claire, super model; Andy Hillman, set designer; Angelica Cheung, former editor-in-chief of Vogue China, industry consultant & venture capitalist; Beka Gvishiani, fashion news commentator (StyleNotCom); Han Chong, Designer; Ib Kamara, creative director of Off White and editor-in-chief of Dazed; Karen Binns, creative director & fashion consultant; Khadija Al Bastaki, senior vice president Dubai Design District & Dubai Fashion Week; Max Ortega, fashion editor & stylist; Nell Kalonji, fashion editor & stylist; Nick Knight, photographer & founder of SHOWstudio; Robert Wun, designer; Sara Maino, creative director & fashion consultant; Alice Lefons, creative director of Beyond Noise; Stefano Martinetto, CEO & co-founder of Tomorrow Ltd and Tyler Mitchell, photographer & image maker.
