Fashion takes centre stage at the Paris 2024 Olympic closing ceremony

The closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was a spectacular fusion of fashion and artistry, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and style. Swiss-born designer Kevin Germanier, renowned for his whimsical and innovative aesthetic, was tasked with creating the costumes for the event, which highlighted his ability to transform recycled materials into high-fashion pieces.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games’ closing ceremony highlighted fashion and sustainability, with designer Kevin Germanier creating eco-conscious outfits, including the standout ‘Golden Voyager.’
Performers like Yseult, Zaho De Sagazan, and Billie Eilish dazzled in designs by Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Ralph Lauren, blending style with environmental responsibility.

Germanier, chosen for his commitment to eco-conscious design, crafted the stage outfits for over 120 dancers, including the standout ‘Golden Voyager,’ who fascinated the audience in a striking recycled gold jumpsuit embroidered with 20,000 pearls. These sustainable creations were largely produced at the Ateliers de la Montjoie in Saint-Denis, with environmentally friendly fabrics sourced through LVMH’s eco-initiative, Nona Source. French singer-songwriter Yseult dazzled in a black silk faille suit designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, topped with a hat reimagined by milliner Stephen Jones.

As the ceremony unfolded, French singer-songwriter Zaho De Sagazan captivated viewers against the backdrop of the floating cauldron, a symbol of the games. She donned a black jersey bodysuit with tulle inserts, paired with a ruffled two-tone silk skirt, and completed her look with Louis Vuitton’s black leather jazz derby shoes. Leon Marchand, the swimming legend and Louis Vuitton ambassador, played a pivotal role in extinguishing the Olympic flame, dressed in an ensemble from the luxury brand.

The event also featured a stellar lineup of performers dressed by some of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas were both outfitted in preppy looks by Ralph Lauren, while French rock band Phoenix exuded style in sleek ensembles by French luxury fashion house Celine. French tenor Benjamin Bernheim graced the stage in an extravagant Dior outfit.
