Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of the Dead’ Universe Dead at Netflix?

Horror

Seventeen years after remaking George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, Zack Snyder returned to the realm of zombie cinema with Netflix’s Army of the Dead in 2021, which was supposed to spawn a prequel movie, a live action sequel, and an animated series. To date, only the spinoff prequel – Army of Thieves – has seen the light of day… and that may remain the case.

A new report from The Wrap seems to indicate that Netflix has pulled the plug on the Army of the Dead Universe, with the sequel movie and the animated series being scrapped.

The planned animated series was titled “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas,” and last we heard, Snyder’s live action sequel to Army of the Dead was going to be titled Planet of the Dead.

Both projects, however, may have been buried six feet under.

The Wrap reports, “Army of the Dead… had a similarly ambitious plan [to Snyder’s Rebel Moon], with several sequels and spin-offs in the works, along with an animated series. The animated series was quietly canceled, along with plans for subsequent films.”

But all hope is not lost for Army of the Dead fans. The property is getting its own haunted attraction at Six Flags Fright Fest this Halloween, proving the dead are never truly dead.

Zack Snyder, meanwhile, has moved on to another Netflix property: Rebel Moon. The streamer just unleashed the rated “R” Director’s Cuts of both movies in the two-part saga.
