Billie Eilish and Finneas have won Best Original Song at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards for “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie. They were in the running against Bruce Springsteen (She Came to Me’s “Addicted to Romance”), Dua Lipa (Barbie’s “Dance the Night”), Ryan Gosling (Barbie’s “I’m Just Ken”), Lenny Kravitz (Rustin’s “Road to Freedom”), and Jack Black (The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s “Peaches”).

Eilish thanked Finneas, her family, the team behind Barbie, and others in her acceptance speech. “I was not expecting this in that moment,” she said. “It was exactly a year ago almost that we were shown the movie and I was very miserable and depressed at the time. Writing that song kind of saved me a little bit. A year later, here we are and I feel incredibly lucky and grateful.” She then paused and looked around the room, adding, “You guys scare the living hell out of me, everyone in this room.”

Earlier in the evening, Ludwig Göransson won Best Original Score for his work on Oppenheimer. He beat out Mica Levi (The Zone of Interest), Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi (The Boy and the Heron), Daniel Pemberton (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Black Midi associate Jerskin Fendrix (Poor Things), and the late Robbie Robertson (Killers of the Flower Moon) for the trophy.

The 2023 Golden Globe for Best Original Song went to M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose for “Naatu Naatu” from RRR. That same year, Justin Hurwitz won Best Original Score for his work on Babylon.
