Kate Bush Reacts to Rock Hall 2023 Induction: “I’m Completely Shocked”

The iconic pop musician was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on her fourth nomination

After four nomination rounds for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Kate Bush has been inducted into the hall as part of the class of 2023. Following the announcement this morning (May 3), Bush has shared a statement on her website reflecting on the honor. “I have to admit I’m completely shocked at the news of being inducted into the Hall of Fame!” she wrote. “It’s something I just never thought would happen.” Bush added: “Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. It means a great deal that you would think of me. It’s such a huge honour. Now as part of the initiation ceremony I get to find out about the secret handshake… there is one, right?”

Bush joins Rage Against the Machine, Missy Elliott, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, Willie Nelson, and the Spinners in the Rock Hall’s class of 2023. The official induction ceremony will take place on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Earlier today, Rage Against the Machine shared their own statement thanking the Rock Hall for the accolade. They also detailed a number of political actions they have taken as a band over the past three decades, writing: “It is a surprising trajectory for us to be welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

The famously reclusive Bush has been more outspoken in recent years, discussing her gratitude for Stranger Things licensing “Running Up That Hill,” eulogizing Robbie Coltrane, and reflecting on the Queen’s death last winter.
