Susan Sarandon has casually confirmed that she’s bisexual, and fans are overjoyed.

The actress and bonafide gay icon referenced her own bisexuality while making a joke about dogs and cats on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (7 September).

When Fallon pointed out that Susan Sarandon had brought her dogs on during a previous appearance on the show, she delivered the sad news that her pets had since died.

“My little creatures all passed away. I can’t talk about it because I still get upset. It was about a year ago,” Sarandon said.

“I was feeling sad and… I said, ‘I can’t get another dog. I just can’t,’ you know? And [my son] said, ‘Well, then get cats.’

“And I’m bi, so…” Sarandon said, to laughter from the crowd.

Fallon interjected: “So you mean you like dogs and cats?”

“I’m fluid,” Sarandon responded. “I’m very fluid where animals are concerned.”

Queer cat lovers out there will be thrilled to learn that Sarandon now owns a cat called Ida, who she described as a “b***h” and as “the saddest looking cat ever”.

Sarandon got two other cats to help cheer Ida up, but it didn’t work – which prompted Fallon to joke that she had become a “cat lady”.

Needless to say, fans were overjoyed to hear Sarandon describe herself as bi.

While Sarandon’s “bi” comment could be seen as a joke, it lines up with what she’s said about her sexuality in the past.

In 2017, she told Pride Source that she was “open” about her sexuality, saying: “My sexual orientation is up for grabs, I guess you could say.”

Two years earlier, she announced on The View that she was open to dating anybody, regardless of their background or who they were.

“If there’s a person, I would leave open the age, the colour, the gender even,” she said.

“It increases your chances, doesn’t it?”

Sarandon is a longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, and she made a name for herself among queer people with her eternally iconic performance as Janet Weiss in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

She also starred in the vampire film The Hunger, in which she and Catherine Deneuve had their very own sex scene.
