Traditions in Music with Tia Penny

Fashion, Music, News

Tia Penny is an Arizona-based singer/ songwriter/ musician with an exceptional range of talent for such a young age. She recorded her first two singles in New York City at A Diamond Heart Production and her first release, “Joyride” is scheduled for September 2022.

As a young teen, she had National and local TV spots, and was chosen as a TEDx speaker/performer for a distinguished Arizona University. She studied classical guitar and vocals at her local Arts School. Her wealth of experience gives her an ease on stage.

Once you hear Tia Penny’s velvety voice, guitar artistry and inspired lyrics, you will be moved.

Thank you for letting us interview you! Let us in on your new music! When did you record it?

I recorded my two songs during spring break of my eighth grade year.

Any writing traditions you have when you’re in that mode?

After learning the hard way, I realized just because I sing something, doesn’t mean I will remember it. I develop a habit of recording my progress as I write

.Any other traditions you have when you’re in your recording process?

I have a fun tradition I started with my dog! My maltipoo Tuxie, howls on command. In my new singles, I worked with my producer to edit a recording of the dog howl (in secret spots) in both songs. They are kind of the ‘where’s Waldo’ of the songs.

What challenges come with recording?

The recording process went very smoothly. One challenge I didn’t account for was how many times you have to play one part of a song.

Who did you collaborate with in the studio?

I collaborated with Vanessa Simberman who is an incredible musician!

Any recording stories you have that you’ll remember forever from this music? Please share one with us!

I remember from the recording process that, as fun as it was, it was also exhausting. Immediately after one of the recording days I went to a sushi restaurant with my aunt and mom, and I probably ate 4 or 5 rolls of sushi. (And two orders of gyoza, but who’s counting)

What do you want fans to appreciate about your artistry when it comes to the new music?

While recording, Vanessa and I focused on adding harmonies into the songs. There is also a guitar riff that I am very excited about!

After the new year we typically forget about our resolutions, have you kept yours when it comes to your music making?

My musical goals from the new year were pretty vague, but I wanted to expand my impact and  work on my songwriting. I think since I recorded, that accomplishes both goals.
