From Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games, Evil Dead: The Game will release on Friday, May 13th, allowing you and your friends to blast away Deadites – or take control of them!

The Collector’s Edition of Evil Dead: The Game includes a special in-game Ash skin designed by makeup effects legend Tom Savini, and we’ve got your first official look today.

We also had a little chat with Tom Savini about the Collector’s Edition Exclusive “Savini Ash” skin, which is actually Savini’s second foray into redesigning a horror icon for a video game. A few years back, Savini had designed his own version of Jason Voorhees for Friday the 13th: The Game, revisiting a slasher icon he brushed up against a couple times in his career.

Evil Dead: The Game‘s “Savini Ash” skin, however, is particularly special, as it marks the very first time Tom Savini has been directly involved with the Evil Dead franchise.

“The first thing I sent to [Boss Team Games and Saber Interactive] they said, ‘ah great, boom, next,’ and that was done. They accepted it immediately,” Savini tells Bloody Disgusting, detailing the process of bringing to life a new version of Ash Williams who’s wrapped up like a mummy, with barbed wire cutting deep into his right arm and his eyes a demonic blood red.

Savini explains the process, “Well, with practical you have to physically make the damn thing. Like all the kills in Friday the 13th: the Game – I think I created 144 kills. That’s me sitting here with a pencil and paper, writing it down, and then sending it in. That was the easiest thing. On paper, to me it was just creating magic tricks and grand allusions, but when I see it… Oh my God, it’s horrifying. So, same thing here – with practical I have to physically create the damn thing. I have to sculpt it and mold it and cast it and paint it. With this, it [started as] just a sketch.”

If given the chance, would Savini like to redesign any other iconic horror characters for video games? And is there any horror movie he’d personally like to see as a video game?

“Well, you know, Freddy is pretty much just that red sweater and the glove… So, Freddy’s pretty much taken care of. Michael Myers – why would he need a new skin. He’s come back too many times. And then, who else is there? I mean, Jason.  Well, I already did that. Maybe that’s why I’ve only done those two,” Savini notes. “Because those are the only logical ones that need new skins.”

He continues, “I’d like to have a Night of the Living Dead game. I’d like to see one of those. I’d like to go kill slow-moving zombies.”
