Doja Cat has doubled down on her announcement that she will be quitting music.

The “Say So” hitmaker shocked fans last week when she changed her Twitter handle to “I quit”, following criticism from fans in Paraguay about a cancelled concert.

After Doja Cat was unable to take to the stage at the Asunciónico festival due to adverse weather conditions, fans accused her of failing to interact with them outside her hotel and sent her a barrage of hurtful social media messages.

In response to the furore, the rapper – real name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini – hit back with a string of since-deleted tweets.

“I f**king quit I can’t wait to f**king disappear and I don’t need you to believe in me anymore,” Doja Cat wrote. “Everything is dead to me, music is dead, and I’m a f**king fool for ever thinking I was made for this this is a f**king nightmare. Unfollow me.”

She added: “This s**t ain’t for me so I’m out. Y’all take care.”

Fans’ fears were then calmed on Monday (28 March) when the star issued an apology for her tweets.

She wrote: “I can travel, I can eat good food, I can see new people, I can smile, I can make memories that I dreamed of having, I can laugh, I can support my family and my friends, I can learn about the world, and I can give back to everyone because of you. I do owe people s**t. I owe a lot.”

Doja continued: “I owe myself a lot too. I owe myself the chance to open up and be good to people. I owe myself the death of my fears that don’t allow me to expand my heart. I didn’t come to another country to do something i can do everywhere else. that would be pointless in a way.”

Sadly this calm did not last long, as Doja Cat went on to do a U-turn a day later and stated once again that she would be retiring from music.

She made the claim when responding to a tweet by Florida radio station MIX 105.1 speculating on whether or not she was really quitting music.

“Yes the f**k I am,” Doja wrote.

This latest drama isn’t the first time the rapper has aired her issues with the music industry after she previously admitted that she did not enjoy the way it made her feel.

During an Instagram Live via The Neighbourhood Talk, the singer said that she feels like she has been doing things that she doesn’t actually want to.

In December, Doja Cat had suggested she was done working with Dr Luke, following much criticism of her associated with the controversial producer, who is locked in a legal battle with Kesha.

Time will tell what this all means for the North American stadium tour Doja has coming up with The Weeknd later this year.
