Samsung Announces February 9 Unpacked Event, Teases S22 S Pen Support

Movies

Following months of relentless leaks and rumors, Samsung has finally confirmed the date for its latest Unpacked event — the event where it’s expected to announce the Galaxy S22 series. The beginning of a new year is exciting for a few different reasons. It’s a time to make resolutions, start new hobbies, and kick off the year on a fresh foot. It’s also when Samsung launches its latest Galaxy S flagships.

For 2022, this year’s handsets are expected to be the Galaxy S22 series — likely consisting of the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. The leaks over the last few months have painted a pretty clear picture of the phones. They’re expected to have the latest Qualcomm processor, upgraded cameras, refreshed designs, and more. Now, at long last, Samsung is getting ready to properly unveil the phones.

On January 25, Samsung formally announced its latest Galaxy Unpacked event. Fans can tune in and watch it live on Samsung’s website on February 9 at 10:00 AM ET / 7:00 AM PT. The invite announcing this Unpacked is pretty simple. It shows a pink ‘S’ in the middle of a glass box, with the text ‘The Epic Standard’ written below it. It may seem like a pretty insignificant design, but it actually holds a couple of secrets about what Samsung’s getting ready to announce.

What To Expect From This Unpacked Event

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Render Let's Go Digital

Let’s start with the ‘S.’ It’s obviously referencing Samsung’s Galaxy S family, but the color is also a clue. Numerous leaked renders have shown the Galaxy S22 is a deep pink/red color — not unlike the color of the ‘S’ in the invite. Could that be Samsung’s way of confirming the colorway is happening? It may very well be.

Something else to take note of is the font for ‘The Epic Standard’ text. It appears to be handwritten as if someone jotted it down with a pen. Considering all the rumors about the Galaxy S22 Ultra being the first Galaxy S phone to ship with a built-in S Pen, this is very likely a tease of that feature. Last year’s S21 Ultra also supported the S Pen as an optional accessory, but the S22 Ultra is expected to take that a step further by including it in the box and having a built-in place to store it inside the phone (not unlike a Galaxy Note).

Beyond the Galaxy S22 devices, Samsung may also use this Unpacked to announce a few other gadgets. The rumor mill’s had murmurings of a new Galaxy Tab S8 and a Galaxy Home Mini 2 smart speaker — both of which could also see formal unveilings. It’s probably too soon for new Galaxy Buds or Galaxy Watch releases, but with Samsung Unpacked, pretty much anything is on the table. Stay tuned!
