Co-writer/director, Colin Trevorrow, reveals that the dinosaurs will find themselves already living with and fighting against humans at the start of Jurassic World: Dominion. At the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, audiences were left with the dinosaurs being set free into the world. Trevorrow, who helmed the first Jurassic World film in 2015, returns to direct Dominion, the sixth entry in the overall Jurassic Park franchise. In Jurassic World: Dominion, dinosaurs and humans have learned to live among each other in the time that has passed since the dinosaurs were released into the world.
Set four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the dinosaurs are no longer caged within a theme park. Having had plenty of time to find their way into all corners of the world, the dinosaurs are both the hunters and the hunted. For the humans, that means learning to adapt to life in a world where dinosaurs have been reintroduced to the food chain. Jurassic World: Dominion will see the dinosaurs spread and populate the earth while also having to deal with humans–some of whom want to protect the dinosaurs, while others want them for their own nefarious means.
Recently, while speaking with EW, Trevorrow discussed how the dinosaurs,”grew up in a theme park and now they’re here!” While he couldn’t go into explicit plot details, Trevorrow did go on to say that in the time since the last movie, “[The dinosaurs] have been multiplying and living amongst [humans] and clashing with us.”
While much of the plot is still under wraps, Dominion does see the return of stars Chris Pratt as Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing, as they continue trying to save the dinosaurs much like they did in the previous film. Along with Pratt and Howard, the film will also reunite Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum after almost 29 years since Jurassic Park was released in 1993. Goldblum, who had a brief cameo in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, returns as Dr. Ian Malcom, while Neill and Dern return as fan-favorite characters, Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler, respectively. It’ll be interesting to see this cast of characters come together to find a solution to their newest problem.
Jurassic World: Dominion had a bit of a rocky production as it initially started filming in February of 2020, prior to the first wave of shutdowns amidst the global Covid-19 pandemic, before finally wrapping production in November of 2021. Now, with the film set to release in June of 2022, fans are that much closer to seeing if Jurassic World: Dominion can follow through on some of its predecessors’ promises of a world repopulated with dinosaurs. Furthermore, audiences will perhaps also see how the return of Neill, Dern, and Goldblum will tie together the threads first introduced in Jurassic Park into the larger story that Jurassic World: Dominion hopes to capitalize on.
