Invasion: Caspar’s Drawings Hint At A Way To Beat The Aliens

Movies

Caspar’s drawings in the latest episode of Invasion finally hint at a way to beat the aliens threatening Earth. Invasion converges on the stories of different people spread across the world as they come to terms with the emotional and physical repercussions of an extraterrestrial takeover of their planet. Despite a mixed critical response to date, the Apple TV+ original does an excellent job of displaying the alien’s impact on diverse cultures worldwide, with Caspar’s London-based narrative being one such example in Invasion.

Invasion episode 8, ”Contact,” sees Caspar (Billy Barratt) and Jamila (India Brown) creep through a war-torn London in an attempt to find their respective families. Caspar, heartbreakingly, finds his mother dead at their kitchen table, prompting him to share a secret with Jamila and promise to bring death to the aliens assailing Earth. Caspar reveals he has been able to commune with the aliens long before they arrived on the planet, with his seizures acting as a conduit for him to draw the alien’s messages and plans onto numerous pages. His prescient abilities are confirmed towards the end of “Contact,” when Caspar reveals a drawing he made of Trevante (John Wick 4‘s Shamier Anderson) and his SEAL badge battling aliens in London weeks before the two characters meet in the present day.

In this way, Caspar’s drawings in Invasion show the first real way to beat the alien threat facing humanity. Caspar’s as-of-yet unexplained ability to hear the alien’s plans in advance can undoubtedly be used to humanity’s tactical advantage in their extended war against the extraterrestrials. Caspar’s drawings also appear to predict the future of the alien’s downfall, with his sketch of Trevante killing aliens in London likely foreshadowing the SEAL helping him and Jamila to safety.

Up until this point in Apple TV+’s Invasion, the aliens have been a wholly unknown entity to humanity, with Earth’s cities in complete darkness as their foreign assailants slowly whittle them down. Indeed, even the aliens battled by the Malik family, Trevante and Sheriff Tyson (Sam Neill) have all appeared unique, with some possessing acidic skin, while others use jagged limbs or skewers to attack. Yet Caspar’s window into the alien invader’s minds completely changes this dynamic, with his ability to foresee enemy plans likely to outstrip even Mitsuki’s (Shiloli Kutsuna) attempts to decode the alien language.

Caspar himself states that he can now “kill all of them” because he sees the alien’s grander plans, with his heartbreak at the sight of his mother’s body forcing him to confront his newfound abilities. While it is unclear up to this point exactly how Caspar plans to do this against Invasion‘s inconsistent aliens, his union with the more dangerous Trevante in London does set the newly formed team up with a clear tactical advantage against their enemy. Trevante’s military connection means that should Caspar, Trevante, and Jamila successfully make contact with the surviving British Army in London, they may be able to turn the tide of the war within the city using Caspar’s knowledge. Caspar finally understanding his visions and not dismissing them as seizures gives Invasion‘s protagonists their first real chance at making headway against the alien attacks on their cities and, eventually, on Earth.
