Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Has Cast Dozens Of Secret Roles

Movies

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has confirmed his upcoming film has cast dozens more roles than reported so far. Fresh off helping to rejuvenate the DC Extended Universe with The Suicide Squad, Gunn is returning to his flagship Marvel series with the MCU’s third Guardians of the Galaxy film. His 2014 original was a surprise success, with Marvel Studios proving that lesser known properties could stand toe-to-toe with the heavyweights of Iron Man and Captain America. Making Groot a household name was just the first step, as the Guardians have since returned for their sequel in 2017 and played a big role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to see Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, Drax, Gamora, and Mantis all return, with the promise of many other familiar villains and allies, potentially even Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. As the MCU’s Phase Four takes shape, the Guardians are set for an all-new adventure, with Gunn once again directing and writing for his comedic-yet-heartfelt action series. The exact plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still being kept under wraps, but recent developments have led to fans wondering who else could be joining the cosmic side of the MCU in the upcoming sequel.

In an interaction with Screen Rant’s own Cooper Hood on Twitter, James Gunn confirms that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has already cast dozens more roles. His comment, while brief, does intensify speculation as to what other Marvel heroes and villains could come across the Guardians this time around. The roles he speaks of could be anyone from a secret villain to a new member of the team, or even just a simple background alien.

Just last week, Gunn confirmed that Midsommar’s Will Poulter had been cast as Adam Warlock, the major cosmic super-being born in the end-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Fans had expected Adam to return for the new film, though whether as friend or foe to the titular heroes is yet undefined, and the casting of the often-comedic Poulter came as a relative surprise. Gunn also confirmed that The Suicide Squad composer John Murphy would be joining the team for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, in the place of previous composer Tyler Bates.

As new details emerge about the anticipated superhero film, Gunn continues to engage with the fans in building hype around his movie, while also keeping as many surprises under wraps as he can. For all fans know, the dozens of roles Gunn refers to could be unnamed background characters, but they could also be huge, established Marvel heroes and villains. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director loves to tease his audience, and so the speculation begins anew.
