Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Mr. Corman Canceled After 1 Season At Apple TV+

Mr. Corman, a dramedy helmed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, will not be renewed for a second season at Apple TV+. The show follows a dissatisfied fifth-grade teacher as he reckons with his failed music career. Gordon-Levitt oversaw the series as creator, writer, director, star, and executive producer. The ten-episode first season was released in weekly installments on the streaming platform from August through October.

Deadline reports that Apple TV+ will not move forward with season 2 of Mr. Corman. Although Gordon-Levitt’s project was received generally well by critics and audiences, the show didn’t perform as well as the service’s other summer comedies. Gordon-Levitt will continue to work with Apple TV+ on Wolfboy and the Everything Factory, an animated children’s series, as a voice actor and executive producer. Season 1 premiered in full on September 24.

Apple TV+ has recently advanced its reputation as a purveyor of comedies thanks to popular, critically acclaimed shows like Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest. The former saw a jump in season 2 viewership and continues to draw viewers to the service, while the latter has yet to be renewed for season 3. Trying has also been picked up for season 3 and Schmigadoon! is likely to be renewed after a successful season 1. Mr. Corman is the second scripted show to be let go from the service after Little Voice.

Mr. Corman is available to stream on Apple TV+ and also stars Arturo Castro, Debra Winger, Shannon Woodward, Logic, Juno Temple, Hugo Weaving, and Lucy Lawless. The show provides an intimate look at its main character, Gordon-Levitt’s Josh Corman, who grapples with depression and anxiety as he teaches students in the San Fernando Valley. Its final episode aired on Friday.
