Warning: contains spoilers for One-Punch Man Chapter 144

One-Punch Man’s Blizzard has been learning a lot about herself lately, and it seems that’s extended to her powers as well. By using a technique she’d never tried before in English chapter 144, Hellish Blizzard, aka Fubuki, may just have saved a fellow hero’s life.

The battle against the Monster Association continues to rage, and despite being on the back lines for most of it, Blizzard has turned out to be an essential asset. She first used her psychic abilities to keep Genos from overheating and going nuclear, which allowed him to get back into the fight rather than accidentally killing his comrades. She also stood up to her sister Tatsumaki, who was pushing herself past the brink of exhaustion and tried to hold her back so she could heal her as well. Now, with a badly mangled Tanktop Master barely clinging to life after Genos rescued him, Blizzard’s healing abilities seemed to have reached their limit.

Bang’s brother Bomb, who came to help defeat Garou, casually mused about lending her some of his strength–an offer which Fubuki surprisingly took up. By using her psychic powers, she was able to funnel life energy from the old martial arts master into Tanktop Master, enough to keep his condition stable. Even more surprising was the reveal after the fact that Fubuki had no idea whether or not this was even possible, proving once again that her abilities far surpass what she’s believed she is capable of.

A big part of Fubuki’s character thus far in One-Punch Man‘s story has been her inferiority complex towards her sister, the number two hero Terrible Tornado. Tatsumaki has often put down her sister’s attempts at help in a fairly cruel manner, although the reason was always to keep her younger sister safe. This sense of inferiority has kept her from trying to grow, eventually leading her to develop the Blizzard Bunch and settle for the top spot in B-class rather than attempt to climb the ranks and match her sister. Her encounter with Saitama shook these beliefs to her core, and consequently have led to the major role she’s played in recent chapters. As Fubuki has continually pushed her limits throughout this arc, it’s become apparent that despite Tatsumaki’s protestations, the gap in power between the two sisters is nowhere near as large as she’s claimed it is.

While Fubuki’s powers are definitely stronger than anyone thought, it does seem as if she has a slightly different area of expertise, as her healing techniques and energy control haven’t been matched, even by S-class heroes. Rather than trying to emulate Tatsumaki’s telekinetic abilities by moving objects and launching attacks, Fubuki may just be better off reaching S-class by focusing on her support powers, keeping other heroes in the fight. One thing is certain, however: the heroes of One-Punch Man are much better off since Fubuki showed up against her sister’s wishes, and her abilities have only continued to grow since then.
