New Portrait Series from Artist Matthew Therrien Spotlights Pinhead and the Various ‘Hellraiser’ Cenobites!

Horror

The three-book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is still fondly remembered forty years after the publication of the first installment, giving nightmares to multiple generations of children with classic horror tales that were elevated by truly chilling illustrations. It was Alvin Schwartz who wrote the stories, and artist Stephen Gammell who brought them to life.

Artist “Watchful Eye” is channeling Gammell with their latest project, imagining your favorite modern horror movie icons in the style of his Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark illustrations.

Watchful Eye’s creepy black & white illustrations bring Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Candyman, Michael Myers, Leatherface, and Ghostface into the world of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and you can pick up 8×10 prints for just $20 each over in Watchful Eye’s shop.

The artist has even written up short and sweet little horror stories for each piece of art, fully embracing that retro Scary Stories vibe. The Jason Voorhees art, for example, is titled “Drowned,” with the accompanying caption reading, “Maybe your mother will miss you too.”
