How to Purchase (& Activate) a Rift in Fortnite (Week 9 Challenge)

Movies

Rifts are an important part of the Fortnite lore as portals that connect various realities and as personal jump pads players can use to gain mobility during matches. One Week 9 challenge in Fortnite Season 6 tasks players with buying and activating their very own Rift. Players can get Rifts in exchange for a sizeable sum of Gold Bars from some of the NPCs found on the outskirts of the island. Only a few NPCs stock these items, however, so players will need to know who to track down in advance.

Not every NPC will spawn every match, and the NPCs who do spawn may not always have Rifts in stock, which can make completing this challenge a bit more tedious than necessary. There is, however, at least one NPC who will always spawn and will always have Rifts to sell, so players who are struggling can choose to seek him out instead. Here’s how to purchase, activate, and use a Rift from an NPC in Fortnite Season 6 to complete this Week 9 challenge.

How to Purchase and Use a Rift from an NPC in Fortnite Season 6

Fortnite Season 6 Raven Teen Titans Skin

Players can purchase a Rift from six different NPCs across the map in Fortnite Season 6. These characters include:

  • Bunker Jonesy: Near the Lighthouse, in the easternmost houses at Craggy Cliffs, east of Misty Meadows, or in a cabin near Catty Corner.
  • Castaway Jonesy: On a small island off the northeastern coast of the map.
  • Rebirth Raven: In a house northwest of Sweaty Sands.
  • Willow: Anywhere throughout Weeping Woods.
  • Raz: In a building at Colossal Crops.
  • Cabbie: In the parking lot at the south end of Lazy Lake.

Of these NPCs, players are likely to have the best chance of purchasing a Rift by going to Cabbie, a version of Jonesy who is almost always guaranteed to spawn every match and guaranteed to have a Rift to sell. As players get closer to him, as with any other NPC, they should see a speech bubble appear on their minimap. This will make it easier to track NPCs as they wander around their spawn location.

To purchase a Rift, players will need to save 245 Gold Bars. As soon as players purchase the Rift, it will activate, launching them into the air for a second drop elsewhere on the map. Unfortunately, there is no way to take the Rift and activate it later, for example, in the Storm to escape. It must be activated as soon as it has been purchased.

Players will earn 24,000 XP toward their Season 6 Battle Pass for completing this Week 9 Fortnite challenge. Because it does not take very long, they can also glide to another location, like Colossal Crops, to complete another one of the Epic Quests.
