Cobra Kai season 4 has officially wrapped filming. The Karate Kid sequel series exploded in popularity at the beginning of 2021 following the release of season 3 – the first season of the show to premiere on Netflix, rather than on YouTube Premium. Cobra Kai stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, and Martin Kove. Season 4 is currently slated for a Q4 2021 release on Netflix.
At the end of Cobra Kai season 3, the dojo war between Johnny Lawrence (Zabka), Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), and John Kreese (Kove) heated up to incredibly violent levels. The two younger sensei finally put their differences aside and joined forces against Kreese, leading to a near-fatal confrontation in the Cobra Kai dojo. After the fight, Kreese recommended settling the dispute at the upcoming All-Valley Karate Tournament, which will likely play a major role in season 4.

Whatever Cobra Kai season 4 holds, it won’t be long until it arrives. Co-creator Jon Hurwitz has announced on Twitter that the season has officially wrapped filming. Season 4 will see more screen time for Tory Nichols (List), Kreese’s quick-tempered karate prodigy, as well as for Miguel’s mother Carmen Diaz (Vanessa Rubio). Theories have also circulated that more classic Karate Kid characters could show up in season 4, such as The Karate Kid Part III villain Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) and The Next Karate Kid protagonist Julie Pierce (Hilary Swank).
Now that Cobra Kai has elevated from a cult hit to a major franchise for Netflix, season 4 could be a good deal different than what’s come before. The stakes raised exponentially in the season 3 finale when the dojo war stopped being a simple feud and started including multiple felonies. Given Kreese’s predilection for cheating, it seems unlikely that he’ll keep his students in check until the All-Valley Tournament.
Other major plotlines going into season 4 include Johnny and Carmen’s budding romance, Miguel and Sam’s renewed relationship, and Robby’s defection to Kreese’s dojo out of spite against both Johnny and Daniel. The roster of primary characters has only grown since the series began, leaving a lot of relationships and individual plotlines for season 4 to pick up. And of course, there’s sure to be lots more of the karate action the series has become known for, though it may look a bit different without award-winning stunt coordinators Hiro Koda and Jahnel Curfman. Cobra Kai season 4 is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
