‘Borderlands’ Film Adaptation to Begin Shooting in Hungary

If you were curious about the Eli Roth-directed adaptation of Borderlands, the film is expected to begin shooting in Hungary very soon. Per The Hollywood Reporter, according to Adam Goodman, the head of Hungarian production services company MidAtlantic Films, the adaptation of the popular Gearbox series is one of several productions currently starting up in the country.

“We’re opened up space for a Lionsgate film, Borderlands, we’re doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we’re doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can’t talk about,” according to Goodman. Due to the tiered restrictions put in place by Hungary for the pandemic, many productions (such as Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune) have flocked to the country for filming.

“It’s remarkable, really, given all of the challenges that we’ve faced since this crisis began, that we’ve managed to keep going,” says Goodman.

While details on the Borderlands movie have still yet to be revealed, the cast does include Cate Blanchett as Lilith, and Kevin Hart as Roland. According to a script leak (that has subsequently been rewritten), the film was to have Lilith as the main character saving Tiny Tina for the CEO of the Atlas Corporation as part of a deal to get released from prison.
